Tractor battery went dead

The battery on one of my Massey 255s died yesterday. The temp was +3 and the darned thing just wouldn't start the tractor even with the engine heater plugged in. I've owned this tractor for 11 years and have never changed the battery in it. I don't have any idea how old it was when I bought the tractor but I'm betting I won't get that long out of any new one I replace it with.

I bought a new pickup in 1979. I had to replace the battery in 1990 and again in 2001, then again in 2011. Your tractor battery should be just as good if you buy a good one.

I bought my Oliver 1600 in early January 2001. I overhauled the motor and put a new battery in it. That battery's still in it and starting it in good shape. I've had some that went bad as soon as the warrantee's up,others seem to last forever. Seems to be the luck of the draw.

Keith ... seriously consider putting that new battery on charge to bring it up to 100% before putting it in tractor.

I have a JD Strongbox that is going on 12 years this spring, worked fine last summer but I don't expect it to start the tractor this spring, it sounded a little slower last fall.

Had to wait for factory to finish semi load of batteries long ago. Noticed battery line changed labels once in a while. also warranty changed . Asked foreman if batteries changed as they all looked the same to me. I did get close enough to count plates and size. He replied all the same, just price and longer warranty unless number of plates or case changed. he said warranty is what you pay for. Conclusion buy cheapest in class, and take your chances generally your ahead.

I have a 1999 F150 with 260,000 miles on it. The original battery last till 2012. It now has a Wally World battery in it that works great. Have had to put two alternators on though.

What brand of battery is it? I need to change to that brand. A battery is suppose to only last four years but I can't get that.

I replaced a Sears DIEHARD Gold in my Super H about a month ago I bought in 1995, twenty years. Two guesses what I replaced it with. Another DieHard Gold. My truck has two Motorcraft batteries in it that are 14 years old, and my car, '06 Volvo has the factory battery in it yet. Started right up the other day at 9 Below.
