OT lighting efficiencies

I found this article interesting, there is a table at the bottom that shows efficiencies.

I thought LED's were much better than this, just incandescents are so bad.

Yup - saw another article about a coated incandescent filament that captured non visible light and only emitted in visible bands out performing led's but they haven't made it last long yet.

Just saw a Menards ad advertising incandescent, Get them before they are gone.

I don't feel CFLs last any longer than incandescent, just cost more.

I only buy DAY light CFL's, the others look yellow.

Same with LED, 3000K are yellow, 5000K are a bright white like the day light CFL.

My garage door opener has a place for two bulbs. I installed a 100w day light rated CFL, which isn't 100w, in one side and a 60w rated 5000K LED next to it, no cover over bulbs. They both appear to have the same brightness. Hard to tell the difference between the two. The eye can't measure lumens.

I'll never buy anymore 3000K LED's, too yellow.

Duke energy sent me 15 60w CFL for free, too yellow.

I'm surprised at the efficiency of florescent tube lights.

Do florescent lights have mercury inside? IF so, that is a problem too.

I have heard some people complain about the life of cfl's, I guess we have been lucky, we have gotten great life out of them, I only remember recycling about 3 in the 15 years we have used them. As far as the mercury exposure, that only happens if you break them and expose yourself to the fumes, and then it's only about as much as eating a serving of fish. I agree it is important to buy the right kind of bulbs, the yellow ones are not so nice.

You must be getting better incandescent than I was. When I quit using them completely 6-8 years ago, they weren't lasting 6 months in any application. In high use closed fixtures (kitchen and bath) I'm getting 1 1/2 To 2 years out of a CFL. In open fixtures (table lamps and basement), 3-5 years. In out door fixtures, 7-10 years. The CFLs in my barn copulas, on an eye and on all night every night, each went 13 years when I replaced them last year. I date the bulbs when I install them, so this is a very accurate assessment.

Geo-Th,In florescent and CFL bulbs do have mercury inside. The LED replacement for florescent has no mercury or glass. I have had 3 CFL bulb go up in smoke and 2 Halogens explode. I have replaced all the Halogens with day light LED fixtures and have only 3 florescent fixtures to convert to LED. When my mercury vapor yard light goes out it will be replaced with a RAB Yardblaster LED fixture.

I too had CFL explode, trip breaker. Good thing cfl was in an enclosed fixture, which smelled so bad I had to replace.
