Sold five 1,300 pound Angus fat cattle this morning, brought $2,000 less than a similar lot one year ago.

Sounds about right. I took four the first Monday of the year. Brought $1400 less than a year ago. To be honest,I was pleasantly surprised they did that good.

I just feed out about 10 steers a year that I sell direct to the customer . My price is the same as it was a year ago although I think I was selling them a little cheaper than others were getting. I even brought two market steers from a friend to fill the orders I had last year. Its looking like I've got everything sold this year. I've built a good customer base over the years and like to keep them happy. Overall I do pretty good although it is a pain sometimes as opposed to dropping them off at the stock yards and getting a check in the mail a couple days later.

750 lb preconditioned steers I sold for $2.40/pound in December,2014 sold for $1.33/pound on December 17th of 2015!That"s a 45 % hit!

The store prices have gone down here. You can buy 85% lean for under $3 and steaks are under $10 with most around $6-7. So the retail price is down.

I bought 80# of 80/20 ground beef for $1.60 last week through a meat wholesaler.
