I never would have thought!

When I started working at the horse farm in 1989, I never thought I'd still be there, or bringing a little girl down there with me. Life can be such a strange journey, good and bad. My little girl likes to help me, here she is breaking the ice in the pails this pm, I forgot to put them in the office this am. I'm so glad she has an interest in farming, the horses, chickens, cows and the garden, ect, she has been going to the farm with me since she was 3 months old, and she goes with me 90% of what little time she's with me. When she was 3 months old I put her on the desk in the heated office in the barn, in her car seat/ cradle carrier what ever it was called, it seems like yesterday. I'm lucky to still have 2 horse left since I started. My mare just turned 32 this pic was from about 2-3 years ago.

I have all girls here ( 5 ) and there is nothing better than when they are "helping " you out on the farm ! Enjoy the time ! It goes sooo fast . Super cute , and lifelong memories for both of you .

BUT, That pic with her by the PTO makes me shudder, makes me remember a time when I was grinding feed and my little one came to visit me.... Nothing bad happened , but I even now have nightmares about it, 20 years later. Take my advice , and teach them to FEAR that PTO , running or not. I dont mean to tell you your own business ,and enjoy !!

Cheerish those moments with her Jay. Take as many pictures and videos as you can with her. Our daughter is 22 back in Sept. She graduated from college last month and has two interviews with the Federal Reserve already. I can't believe all that's over with. Our son will be 21 in March and graduated from college last May. They're never home much any more. You'll want to turn back the clock with them as I guess our parents did with us.

I agree about the pto, the tractor was not on, the hitch isent hooked up, I was changing the oil in the gearbox on my baler. I would never run anything like that near her.

I agree, January 1st 2015 I put down a 35 year old, it's never easy, That one was tough because she was the first horse I learned to handle walk to pasture ect, when i was 14 years old. As big as she was for a Thoroughbred she was just so docile, My horse is no where's near as big as that one but she's completely nuts! Lol

I do, lots of pics, tomorrow I will look forward to seeing her little foot prints in the snow from today. John, are you the one that had that biscuit recipe a few years ago and had a hurt foot? I usually don't forget to much, but my head has been consumed with this divorce. There's so many folks on hear, I sometimes mix them up.

Be prepared to get your heart ripped out and handed to U on a platter! That said, gained two good Son in Laws. (side note) When boys would come around to date, my Dad would say to me "you shoot them and I'll hide the body".

+1 about PTO, I saw it, went on to other posts, came back to post something & you said it. Teach respect yes, but at that age even a moment's inattention...even a piece of black plastic corrugated drain....

That pic by the pto my daughter was about 2, she's now 4, but she is very good about not getting into things, besides I always keep my eyes on her.

There no reason for a shield, it's been like that since I bought the baler in 2007, I don't see any reason to ever go near a running pto, and no shield reminds you not go near it. I could never understand entanglement. ??

Such a sweet little helper!

You would understand PTO dangers better if you met someone who lost both arms due to one. You would never pick that gal up again.

Not one person that I have met ever thought "I think I'll go get tangled up in that today."

Get or make a cover!

came back to this post this morning to see your replies "but..." "but...". But nothing. all who have posted about this have done so because they care about your little girl, and you. none of us want to find out that your post title predicted the future. going to throw another thought at you - you think your split has been hard so far? you'd better hope that her attorney doesn't get hold of this whole thread, where you've posted a picture, said your head isn't together, then argued with everyone about why you're right. you think you've got problems now.... don't mean to beat on you, bro - was in similar shoes 30 yrs ago - but you've got to get/keep your act together.

Hey fellas,
How bout you farm your way and let him farm his.
I just don't understand everybody having a stroke over his pto.
Lay off and focus on the nice post about a father who loves his daughter.
Sheesh!

PTo,PTO heck what about that horse ! I bet more people have been hurt by horses than PTO's. Horses can go nuts at the drop of a hat.
Sure I'd like to see a shield on that pto too. But you can at least control a pto , just shut the engine off.

Please Be careful. A farm family lost 3 year old boy in our area due to a tractor accident.
I think he was riding on one as he had done many times and something went wrong.

She is precious. I have twin girls about to turn 13. Time flies. You 're doing the best thing you can do right now, spending time with her -- building good memories that's last a lifetime.

What a sweetheart. You are lucky for sure. We all know the PTO wasn't running and no need for concern, some just feel the need to double check that you know. No big deal.
The horse looks pretty fit for 30 years old. I know back when I was a kid we would use them in horseshows when they were mid 20's with no problems, as long as they were fit. It's a great thought to let them live out their lives on your farm. Thanks for the pics. Bob

Hey Jay!

Thanks for posting those heart warming photos! Keep your chin up and my heart goes out to you. Where do you live in NY? I live in the Catskills. Jake
