Any Illinois gun slingers out there?

Whats a guy got to do to get a FOID card now days?, mine expired in March 2000 and I'm down to my last 15 or 20 bullets, won't be long to the occasional skunk or ground hog shows up or the coons in my sweet corn and I ain't that good of shot anymore.

What is a FOID card?? Here in Missouri I can go to any place that sells ammo and buy what ever I want

I buy all my ammo off the internet and have it shipped to my home. Buy in bulk and save a lot of money in the process. Don't know about Illinois laws but it is the best way to go here in Texas.

Call the Illinois state police and they can tell you what to do.

Just drive to Indiana and stock up. Don't ya pay attention to the POTUS? Indiana is to blame for Chicago gun violence!

Or in other words anti 2nd amendment law. Another reason I like where I live. But hey if your close enough to Missouri you could always drive across a bridge and buy ammo. Sort of like buying Coor's beer years ago. If you wanted Coors you drove to Ok to buy it

It's pretty important that we keep a database of all firearms owners just in case they go crazy and we need to lock up their guns for their own safety.

Maybe we could go to Britain's system, just let the police keep all the guns, and go check yours out when you are going to need it.

For emergencies, you just call the police anyway, they are just minutes away.

Illinois started this card thing back in about 1970 or so. I quit hunting in about 1975 so I let it expire, then about 1990 I wanted to do a little trapping again and carry a pistol so got another card and that expired in 2000. Was looking over my ammunition stock pile today and found 2or3 birdshot shells, ten or so long rifles and another 10 or so shorts plus a few 20 ga. slugs. Can't put up much of a fight with that mess. I bought those slugs in the mid 60s, only time I went deer hunting and only took one slug for my deer.

Like already said just go to another state and buy it. Solves that problem. 20 years ago I was killing time in a store around the Joliet Chicago area and wanted to look at a rifle. They wouldn't even let me look at it being from anotherstate without a foid card. Told me I would never live in IL for that reason alone.

most of the gun shops in illinois will do the foid card for you. they take the photo and send in the application. i think they are good for 6 or 10 years. you do need one to posess a gun or buy ammo in illinois if you are an illinois resident. not really a big deal, if you are mentally disturbed or have a felony background you are denied. the benefit that i see is the gangbangers that get caught with a gun without a foid card get arrested. it does give law enforcement a little bit of leverage against the criminal element. good or bad, i dont know, but so far i have never had a problem. got mine in the early '70s i think.

The FOID isn't something new. I lived in Illinois in 1973 and had to have one then.

If you are computer and internet savvy enough to post a thread on YT you can go to the Illinois State Police website and fill it out yourself. Had my wife take a picture to use with my cell phone and submitted that. Costs $11 convenience fee, cheaper than a round trip to a gun store.

BAD ADVICE!!!!! Yes you can go to another state and buy ammo but that does not allow you to LEGALLY bring it back to Illinois! If you are caught with ammo or a gun in Illinois and are an Illinois resident you will be arrested AND your guns and ammo will be confiscated...Then you will NEVER be able to get a FOID and own a gun LEGALLY!!!! I urge all Illinois residents to OBEY the law , I know it sucks but when you break the laws you are just another CRIMINAL in the eyes of the Government. ....

ALSO to the incident in Joliet, these store employees did not understand the law,( as is common). An out of state person only has to abide by HIS STATES requirements to buy or possess a gun. Of course that requires the store to know and understand the laws of 49 other States!!!!

BTW, we are making progress as we can now apply for and receive a concealed carry permit!!!!!!

Send in the application yourself and don't pay the charge that the stores give you to send it in all they are doing is mailing it. The only issue that I have had was when I renewed mine last time. I have had a FOID card for 15 years so its not like my name wasn't in the system. Sent in the renewal 6 months before my card expired because I live in Illinois and I have learned that when they put x number of weeks on a form they really mean months. 8 MONTHS later I still didn't have my FOID card. They did process my payment though about 4 days after I sent it. Called the FOID office spent 3 hrs on hold (that's not an exaggeration. I have the phone bill to prove it!)and asked what the deal was and got told that they weren't sure and I just needed to be patient. I asked about the fact that I was in illegal possession of firearms because they were not getting renewals done in a timely manner. I was told "Well hopefully you don't get caught. We will look into it and get back to you in the next six weeks." I called my state rep(we live about 2 blocks apart in a small town)and told him what was going on. Got a call back from him the next day and had a card 48 hrs later. It turns out they cross reference you with everyone that has the same last name that you do. Evidently Smith is a really common last name. So when they found a criminal record for somebody with the same first and last name but a different middle name they denied the card. They didn't bother to investigate any farther. The rep asked if they checked drivers licenses to verify correct I.D. and they told him they didn't have the resoures available for that even thought that number is on the form so they can. A friend of mine has a last name takes collage degree to spell. He sends his in and gets it in two weeks. Got to love Illinois! At least they made them good for 10 years instead of 5. Sorry for the rant.

Just went thru this with my daughter. Stores no longer process the applications. Have to use the online process. Is easy. Take a good selfie and spend about 5 minutes online.

How do you fight back? You can vote on election day but the entire system is run by "Chicago" politics. The most CORRUPT city in the most CORRUPT state in the Union! We did just elect a new Governor that is trying to straighten this mess out.

OH.... by the way, YOUR President just enacted an executive order on gun control. Are you going to fight back? If so, just what are you going to do??? Nothing I suspect.

I do not really object to this FOID system as I do not want criminals, the mentally incompetent and any other crazies in this state to be able to walk into any Walmart and buy a gun and ammo.

BTW....There is ONE way to fight back and we all can do it...JOIN THE NRA...I am a life member AND donate to their cause often!!!!!! They will fight for you,,,, JOIN THE NRA NOW!!!! before its TOO LATE!!!!!
