As it turns out, last year has been one of the best years of my life.

Wheat crop was all but totally lost, cattle market was down and of course, that damned fire where we lost everything near and dear.

However, from out of the blue, my YT friends ignited a spark with a campaign of donations. Hundreds of letters and well wishes, clothes, foodstuffs and gifts amounting to $8200.

When that happened, it really shook me awake and made me 're-stock' my situation. I took the bit in my teeth and went to work.

We have our health, I'm strong as a bull and armed with the knowledge that I have friends that I've never even met, I'm plowing ahead on this road of life.

Bless you all. Hope 2016 can live up to 2015's high standards. You are some very, very special people.

Allan

I am so glad Alan... it is a blessing when you know that there are people that care. I know you are busy and all but when you have time drop me a message. I have a question for you about my 656

God Bless
Dave

Ya, 2015 was a tough one for many, but when you stop and realize what you still have, you just have to lean into the traces and pull harder. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Wishing you the best in 2016! Chris

Glad nothing can keep you from being optimistic, as there really is no sense in being negative no matter what happens in life !!!

Allan, it occurred to me a while ago that you should have kept living in the house you had (and not burn it) and just burned the one you are now fixing. Now people will jump all over me saying that is stupid, etc. (grin) Paul

It has a d282 ran strong etc. good all around tractor. last November I was
bush hogging up a grade when all of a sudden it started to miss and black smoke poured out of the exhaust. It wasn't hot nor was she being run hard. I got her back to the barn. Checked the air filter and wasn't all that bad. Checked the fluids and all were good with no fuel in the oil or oil in the coolant. I just put the ole gal up for now. Any ideas on what to look for?

Inspiration and community are vital elements. Without them we would all be nasty or just give up. It is the spinning of the web we live on. From the friendship you provide us, and your unceasing dedication to your land animals and equipment, you give back to all the essence of that community. Thanks, Jim

You have had an unfailingly positive attitude over the years (witness this post, for example), plus a willingness to help in your areas of expertise. When others would complain about all the horse manure, you're in there looking for the pony. What goes around comes around.

Allan,

When trouble happens and we have the ability to provide support, it's an opportunity that blesses. Nothing you wouldn't do for any of us. So glad you're charging ahead!

Does sound weird for someone who has gone through so much to say it was his best year. But sometimes it takes bad stuff happening to remind us that we have friends family and god to count on. Sometimes we loose that in the everyday world of life. Glad that you and your Mrs. are still strong and healthy and moving forward. Wishing you a better 2016. BTW how did the door hunt go? I had never seen a door such as that. It sure did look pretty though.

2015 was a good year.I increased my tractor collection by 4 an IB, B, WD 45, and an I400. All have a need for lots of TLC.

I have no experience to compare with yours; being cleaned out by fire. I've felt unqualified to even comment on your loss. However, a friend went through a similar disaster. He woke up to fire, jumped out of his bedroom window and was left with the T-shirt he was sleeping in. Due to the building's construction and its location - it took the firemen a while to get there - he recognized there was no point in going back to try to retrieve anything.

In spite of the fires both of you went through, your optimism, voiced in this post, is similar to his. Following the fire, my friend said he came to have a sense of freedom. With his past gone, all that remained was his future. He was prudent in decisions which followed, but if he saw an opportunity, the door was open. He wasn't na?ve, he didn't proceed fearlessly, but he described an unfamiliar sense of freedom to follow the opportunity.

The jams I have been in have convinced me the future is an amazing thing.

Native tribes of the Northwest Plains practiced variations of the Sundance ritual. Part of this ritual, not as well known, involved the back, and preceded the pectoral muscle ritual. Coming from the Plains, you may find a study of this ritual interesting. The difficult part will be getting beyond descriptions of how they did it and finding an account of what they were doing and why. In a way, you may find the "why" applicable to your situation.

Having been hesitant to say anything at all, I hope I haven't said too much.

here's where I'd start. 1. does it have low compression in one cylinder? (a "lope" when turning over with starter). if not, and no scary noises, 2. start it and find out which cylinder is missing (loosen fuel lines at nozzles to tell). 3. pull the nozzle from the bad cylinder, get it checked. 3. if it is missing on 2 cylinders, especially adjacent ones, i'd look for a blown head gasket.

there are good fokes around when you have a big fire you find out who your friends are really quick glad things are goind good for you.

Allen - all the best for the New Year!

There is a great song Flatt & Scruggs recorded called The Good Things Out Weigh The Bad. You might enjoy/identify with it.

Keep -keeping the glass half full!
