My Turn to Rant.

I'm going to need a better 4x4 or a new wife. My wife has had several different four wheel drive SUV's and she's managed to get stuck with every one of them. Here's an example. We got some snow over night. Not as much as I thought we would get, but enough. I figured that my wife's all wheel drive SUV should be able to get out to the road. Not with my wife driving it. She backed out of the garage and backed right into the deepest part of the snow. Had she looked things over before she charged out she could have avoided that area and drove right out to the road. Of course she came stomping into the house, mad as all get out, making her situation sound like it was all my fault. So I got dressed, went out to get her going. I first had her get in the vehicle and gibe it a try so I could see what was going on. Then I got in and gave it a try. I then shoved the snow out from all the wheels and told her to try it again. She got it backed up about the length of the vehicle. I told her to wait, and was going to get the tractor out of the barn. I got the tractor warmed up and drove out to clear the snow ahead of her, so she could get out. Well, while I was warming the tractor up she drove forward, and got stuck again. Now she was right in my way, and I had to dig her wheels out, so she could back up out of my way. I felt like getting behind he shinny SUV, and shoving her all the way to town, but I didn't. I cleared all the snow out to the road, and got her on her way. Oh, did I tell you our driveway is as level as a pool table? Now I'm going to have to take extra pain meds to get my back to settle down before I can continue my day, all because my wife can't seem to be able to avoid getting stuck.

The rants over. Now it's your turn to pile a little grief on me.

Well, it sounds like you know that it would be easier to do the correct husband thing and clear the snow before she goes to her car to leave, LOL. Last night I did some rearranging in my shop so that I could get both of our cars along with my truck into my shop before the storm. Now I need to get my self in gear and get my tractor out and clear the driveways. 35 years ago we lived across the road from an airline pilot and his wife. He was a real nice guy but was gone a lot. She was somewhat high strung. He would usually be away when it snowed and she didn't like to clear snow, so she would try to push her way through the snowbank at the end of the drive by the road. This usually did not work and she would be out there shoveling the snow from under her truck, swearing a blue streak the whole time. I would be working at my desk in the front room, and I would have gone out to offer to help her but I was very reluctant because of her being apparently so angry.

Don't know why she was going to town but if it was for a job be thankful she has ambition and not just a couch potato watching soaps. If it was to go shopping -- that's another story.

I guess advice from the mostly sunny South may not be well received, but I would back the car into the garage so as to have a straight shot forward. At our house the driveway slops gently toward the road. When snow was forecast here we would park the cars at the front of the house and clean snow off the cars if necessary. Snow is rare enough here so usually we just stayed home.

KEH

Another thing... have the suv facing the door in the garage when snow's coming so it's a straight ahead shot getting out.

She sits around the house on her off hours, or goes someplace for hours on end. Those are peaceful times for me.

She still would make a bee-line to the deepest part of the driveway.

Just let her read your rant-problem solved. Oh, by the way, what kind of flowers would you like us to send you in the hospital LOL

Agreed. She'll be a lot more careful if its her sweat that gets involved. I know I learned more about keeping a tractor from getting stuck when my dad made us dig them out instead of pulling them out.

Do NOT back the SUV into the garage! She WILL go on "auto pilot", and place shifter in reverse to exit! That will be disastrous to both vehicle and building, AND ramp up her frustration level! Just saying!

Its gets worse when you retire and if she is still working!!!! Since your retired your not doing anything "important" that can't wait, but if they need something you can do it right now
because your retired and "not doing anything anyway"!!!!!!

We've been married for thirty six years. She's heard it all before. It just doesn't seem to soak in.

I've been in the hospital more times than I can count. I doubt one more time will hurt anything.

funny, you wrote this sounding as if it's NOT all your fault.

SUV's are mechanical things. All mechanical things fall within the realm of men. When mechanical things don't work as expected, it is
man's fault.

You are a man.

You are at fault.

The rest of us are at fault too, but you were closest.

Think of it as taking one for the team.

Do I get a medal, or something, for this? Or is it the wives responsibility to reward their husbands?

I was 20 years in the tire business and it is amazing to watch some of these people in their 4WDs. I think the issue is these
Jeep ads that show them driving through 8' of snow (the ones where you can only see the antenna). People actually believe
that stuff just like they believe in 'All weather tires'. These days SUVs have these real wide tires (to keep from rolling
over) with smooth treads (to keep down road noise) and the owners wait until they're bald before going out in the snow
blocking the road for 2WD cars with real (noisy) snows.

What kind of a 4x4 ? one with a shifter ? or all time ? one that will just spin 2 wheels or traction controlled so it won't spin at all ?
And then there are the tires ? bald ? or brand new studded snows ?

Back the SUV into the garage. This took awhile to explain to my wife, but.
1. You can see where you are going
2. You can tell if something is in the way
3. You are a lot likely not to back over someone.
4. If you have to leave in an emergency you are all ready headed out.

I have found it Much easier to just clean the driveway if its too deep OR turn it around for my wife so its heading the right way,,,, I start mine's van every morning, scrap the windows shovel her a path ect,,, we have been together since we were 19,, I am 53 now,,,, makes a much happier wife lol
cnt

I insisted that she get an all wheel drive for her new vehicle. Her last one was a 4x4 where she had to turn a knob to put it in 4x4. She wouldn't turn that knob until she was out in somebody's corn field. Then she figured she had better turn the knob to get back on the road. The only knob that works to get her unstuck is the one that is typing this message.

On sunday I was going to plow the snow in our driveway but my tractor wouldn't start. So I hooked my
pickup up to it to pull start it. Had the wife drive the truck which she's done before just not my new
one with the manual trany. I couldn't figure out why the engine was reving so much but we weren't moving
til I saw the cloud of smoke coming out from under the truck and realized she was slipping the clutch.
Of course she said she wasn't slipping it. Lol I have jo odea how much damage was done to the clutch,
but it wasn't good.

4wd on a commuter vehicle is unnecessary. It's a waste of money buying it, and a waste of gasoline driving it.

My wife has a 2009 Ford Escape front wheel drive with the 4 cylinder engine. I put snows on the front at the beginning of winter. That thing will go anywhere a 4wd with all season tires will go. She drives it all week commuting to her bank job 4 miles away, she gets 22. She is always late leaving for work, so she drives it like she stole it and still gets 22. You won't get that with any 4wd.

Now, my farm pickup is 4wd and I would NOT own a 2wd pickup. I'm constantly engaging 4wd, but I am off-road more often than she is.

Oh, and our driveway is 1800 feet long with a big ditch in the middle. I get stuck pushing it out with the skid steer more often than she gets stuck driving it.

While I was working for the city plowing snow, my EX(thank goodness) wife calls from the baby sitters house saying she is stuck. So after getting permission from the
boss(not a pleasant conversation) I ride out there and see her in a freshly plowed drive not moving. I have her get in try to move it. the front wheels are spinning like
mad and the back are not turning. Needless to say after she took the e-brake off it was fine. And this was one of her better moments.

My wife wouldn't be happy if I carried her to town on my back. She's a hard person to please. She has vacation time she can use for days like this. The worse that could have happened this morning was she would have had to use a couple of them until I could have went out to clear the snow. I'm too crippled up to just jump out of bed and clear snow on her demand. She could have waited until my morning dose of pain meds kicked in before I had to go out. But I guess that would be asking for too much.

you leave ahead of her, she will learn . we deal with rural mail route at this house hold, you really learn some
things doing it. we just run winches now on vehicles. solves about any thing can get into unless were on our
tops.but on the other side some people just should not be in vehicles period. just like some people should never
become parents of small kids.good luck

I used to work second shift, and she had an early morning job. One night I just about didn't make it home because of an ice storm. When I went to bed I told her not to go anywhere until the county trucks went out to put salt and gravel on the roads. She didn't listen and ended up in a ditch five miles from home. I drove my JD model B all that way, in the dark, to pull her out. Then drive, in the dark, all the way home, in the dark. I was about froze when I got home. I was pretty stiff from the cold ride, and just about fell off the tractor getting off of it. Did I mention that it was pretty dark out too.

Join the club. Mine stayed home yesterday because those roads were just too nasty. Soooo, after
my chores I went to the city for a doctors appointment. When I got home she wanted to know if I
wanted to watch TV with her and kitty. I expounded for about three minutes how my day would be
filled with checking water, chopping ice, and finding enough extension cords for every stock tank.
There were hogs to move and doors to unstick on every shed. At the end of the day I drove five
miles west down the dirt road to check and see if it was passable for a woman. You know, since
we got a half inch of ice and an inch of snow. Last night I told her to take the road west to work
because the blacktop was a sheet of ice. I got a quiz about every mile of that road I tell you.
There's a reason I drove it before I parked the pickup - I couldn't dare let her get stuck or I'd never
be right for another 20 years. This morning I got read for filth in case I wasn't able to answer my
phone when she buried her suv to the axles in an inch of snow. Honey, put on your big girl nnalert
and get to work. I am headed out to that tractor to go to work. I'll gladly trade you.

I never got a call and she's been at work for 30 minutes. Whew. I'd rather try to start the chore
tractor I forgot to plug in than deal with that car in the snow. I wonder what she's making for
dinner...

Well after reading all this I realize how good I have it. Wife is a northern MN born girl and drives a Honda CRV, She has never been stuck
(that I know about) and can drive as well as I can in the snow. Also she has good jugement as to where not to go with it. She has only hit
one deere in the last 20+ years and that includes working shift work as a nurse. However on the down side, she is a rather bad cook if that
makes the rest of you feel any better.

LOL ,That was funny. I feel your pain. I've spoiled mine so bad she cant seem to do anything by
herself. And it seems to be just little stuff. Called me at work just yesterday to tell me the TV
has been freezing up again. The direct TV guy was just there Sunday ran all new wire. Like i can do
something about it 50 miles away. I wanted to say well call the direct TV folks and get them back
out there. But i didn't i called them myself as always. Whats funny is when i got home in the
evening that TV never missed a beat never messed up once LOL. But it sure got her tail feathers
crossed up. We live in the south so not much snow here North Carolina she wouldnt drive in it
anyways if we did. Yeah shes spoiled but she sure can cook LOL. If i didnt have to eat she would be
useless HAHAHA . Man i sure hope she never reads this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep you won the medal. But you lost it when you started thinking that wives give rewards LMAO.
This was a great post this morning got alot of smile from it..
I found out it aint just my wive. LOL

(quoted from post at 15:48:07 12/29/15) Let her shovel it out herself & it won't happen again.

My life is bad enough now. What do you think it would be like if I had made her dig out her vehicle on her own?

(quoted from post at 16:08:58 12/29/15) must be the moon ,,. my sara gave me the uglies all day yesterday , after we went to the land attorney 1st thing in the am , to sign the final papers on our 1/8th of mom and dads place ,all was fine with the life estate , until she saw my daughters name that snubbed me listed as heir ,.in the car home,, she got upset,, told me I got a memory as long as my d--k ,I FORGIVE , and she must have one l.ike a elephant, started throwing up every slight my daughter done to me and her since she met her 10 yrs ago ,.stuff I chose to put way far back in my memory closet .,..this was my parents farm ,, who loved my daughter and mutually shared love , I didn't reciprocate to her Sicilian Tirade ,,..I just quiently stated my position ,, and in my mind heard the phrase jed clampett told Jethro ,,, JUST Drive the Truck , Boy! .. got home and fed the this morning she had coffee for me , mite have weathered this storm ,..go figure

The moon......I guess that's as good as an excuse as any. I was told a long time ago to never trust anything that can bleed for a week and not die. Took a while for me to figure that one out, much too long. (I hope this one doesn't get me kicked off the board.)

Was in the tire business over 20 years, if you have all season tires on it, throw the dam things away and get her some Blizack snow tires, then if she gets stuck she will really be stuck. All season tires are NO good in the winter.

Read all these posts and was laughing the entire time. My wife has this firey Irish temper and she lets loose on me at least four or five times a week. I do everything. Pulled her out of the drive many times. She never learns...

Look fellas! Married men generally don't live as long as the women. We CAN, but we usually choose not to, and there is a reason for it....You know what it is.

The one thing I noticed this morning was that her tire tread was full of snow and weren't cleaning them selves out. New tires will be the next thing we'll try.

The one thing about my wife that I really hate is when I make a recommendation about something, like buying an all wheel drive vehicle, and when it doesn't work out she has a way of jamming it to me like I was some sort of idiot. Even though she was the one that made it not work. It seems like she goes out of her way to do this.

I'd just tow it into the biggest snow bank you have and leave it.
That saves all the unnecessary beginning steps.
And why oh why can't women use mirrors??

Yes Dear....hangs head in shame.

Hang in there fellas!

I'm on the other side. Our youngest daughter lives in Des Moines which got a pretty good amount of snow yesterday. She only lives 2.5 miles from work on fairly level ground. Well we hadn't heard from her all day so my wife decided to text her. She works a sales job in a big sports store and was 1 of 5 on the main floor that made it to work yesterday. She called us on the way home to her place last night wondered what was going on. She made it to work and back fine with her '97 chevy lumina.

Remember that comedian that made a joke about wives always out living their husbands? He read off a bunch of obits. for men who had died, and it always ended with survived by his wife. The last one he read was a fella that was 102, and the obit. still said survived by his wife. He had to give the old boy credit for hanging in there so long.

I tell everyone that my wife doesn't need mirrors. She backs up by sound. When she hears a crash she knows she went to far back.

One solution is to teach your wife to back into the garage or barn. This way she can put the vehicle in gear and put the hammer down and go for the road. My wife is very good at backing into the barn and learned how to do it without banging up her car.

BTDT,,,, She is worth it,,,, She puts up with ME lol

At times like that, I just think of all her other redeeming qualities and chuckle to myself about the latest incident - and keep my mouth shut!

I do too, but it does build up. That's why I started this rant.

You guys need to learn to appreciate your wives. If they were so bad why did you marry them to start with?
Mine died in February and she knew how to drive, cook and do all wifely things needed. You never know what you have
lost sometimes until it is gone. So, enjoy the good things and learn to overlook the bad things unless you do no
bad things your self. We were married 48 years and I never found fault with her because she did not find my faults.
This was my second marriage. My first wife broke me, but my second wife made me. My dad once told me you need to
love them or leave them alone to begin with!

My wife eventually trained me to warm up her car, and back it out of the shed by doing that (I was a slow learner too).

Not on your life! We've been married 13 years with two wonderful kids. I'd be completely lost without her.

My son has a wife that can drive a man batty at times. Her saving grace is she is beautiful with a southern drawl she can tell you
to go to helx and make you kinda want to go. I asked my son once how can he put up with all the crap. He said well she just walks
around and shakes that little southern butt and I can forget everything else .She is a good christian and makes sure my grand kids
are in church ,therefor she is ok by me.

I'm sorry you lost your wife. It's very hard to lose a loved one.

I try not to be too hard on my wife. She was raised by a pair of ogres that had no business reproducing. It has affected every aspect of her life. But there are times I just can't help myself and fly off the handle. I'm only human, you know.

Does that mean I have can quit cleaning the house getting ready for her arrival? Now my wife will be suspicious about what I've been up to.

My wife Dixie came from the South where there was very little snow. I just take her where she needs to go year around. She is such a good cook I just look forward to each meal. She doesn't gripe when I track the barn into the house. Not a word and when I start tracking the house out to the barn I get the vacuum cleaner out and pick up the worse in the house where I walk. What more could I ask for. I can't thing to gripe about. :)^D

Maybe if you clean up the house, she'll gripe less... ;-P

I was loading bales out of the field one day, and when I went to move the semi, found the front wheels had settled down beyond the rims. Couldn't take off under its own power. The wife was just finishing up baling, so had her get in the truck, she had driven before, shouldn't be a problem. Hooked the loader tractor on the front and gave it a pull. Nothing. Tried again, truck stalled out. I'm puzzled why the truck won't move, pulling with a big enough tractor, and a little help from the truck it should have come right out. I move the factory around and hooked on the trailer, tell the wife to go, pull, nothing, truck stalls out again. Just as we stop, I notice the trailer brakes releasing?? Wife had just got out of the baler tractor, the pedals are clutch, throttle, and brakes L to R. She had been in the truck, letting the clutch out and pushing on the brake pedal!

And the result of all this, I am the one who taught her how to drive a manual, so it was all my fault!

One thing from your post, if it is "all wheel drive" it is not 4 wheel drive, they are two different things. All wheel drive transfers power
from on axle to the other, it doesn't lock both axles together. Most small SUV's are all wheel drive.

They are experts at using mirrors in the bathroom. They can do things with mirrors that us guys would NEVER try..in the bathroom. They shave some places one can only see with a mirror. Are you kiddin'...shave around "that" thing when everythings backwards?? NOT.

Well , don't know about your wife but i can tell you about mine . She is the worst driver i think anybody could find . And she has had several cars that were totally helpless in snow till i made some changes . 1973 Plymoth Scamp . it did not like snow till i added two H-70-14 Goodyear Custom polyglass snow tires with studs and two 150 I H wheel weights in the trunk . Next was a 1975 Merc. Cougar it even had a posi rear and it was helpless till we put the tire off the Scamp on it along with the two wheel weights . it would even come up this drive before we moved here . When we bought the 03 Dodge Durango vqary first thing with it was a set of GOOD Winter tires for the winter months not them stupid all seasons something with some BITE to them and she knows how to turn the KNOB and when to turn the KNOB . This drive can really drift big time and she has never gotten stuck with the Durango even when the back bumper is playen snow plow to get turned around and push snow with the ft. bumper going down the drive and busten thru the snow bank left by the plow . I may have to clean the grill out but that thing just goes as long as it has good tires on it for the job at hand. But with Alseasons on it you have problems with six inches of snow .

Driving in snow and mud is some thing that most of us grew up with,, it comes as a second nature,,most women have never been exposed to the nasty conditions that we have grown accustomed to..and it's not some thing that they will learn,, it's easier to blame the car/truck, the weather the darn nasty drive way,,and us for not making things perfect in every way..I have been through all of this, and I try to just let it be amusing,,and deal with it...But like the others have said, "Real" snow tires, not all weather..if you can't hear them sing to you going down the road they won't do well in snow,,higher ground clearance is an important aspect too,, and more wheels driving also makes a difference,,but,, if they don't have a clue about driving in crappy conditions all these things won't make much difference. I could write a long list of the little things that can make a difference,,maybe I will start another thread after bit..and always remember,, wives are like people thinking the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence...and it's all in Fun...

Your wife is a girl.
Girls are pretty clueless about a lot of things.
So focus on the attributes that made you choose this girl over thousands of other girls who are equally clueless about a lot of things.
Then it will be easier to love her.

Try doing it the other way around.

My wife is retired and I'm not. She has all day to sit around and dream up new projects for me to do and new ways to spend money.

Drives me nuts. Worst of all, I work out of a home office, so she thinks she can walk in and interrupt me at any time. But, she's weathered 50 years of my lunacy, so I guess I can give her credit for that.

(quoted from post at 18:48:32 12/29/15) Why didn't you have that drive cleared for her before she went out? No excuse for that in my book.

All this happened a 5:00a.m. I have enough arthritis in my body where I live on opioids in order to be able to move. There comes a time when a wife needs to learn how to take care of some things on their own. This is the time.

(quoted from post at 19:15:50 12/29/15) Your wife is a girl.
Girls are pretty clueless about a lot of things.
So focus on the attributes that made you choose this girl over thousands of other girls who are equally clueless about a lot of things.
Then it will be easier to love her.

I grew up in a small town. There wasn't thousands of girls to choose from, but I do get your point.

When she's criticizing me about something I may have done wrong I ask her this. If you're so darn fussy about everything, how did you end up marrying me? She never has an answer to that.

(quoted from post at 18:56:59 12/29/15) One thing from your post, if it is "all wheel drive" it is not 4 wheel drive, they are two different things. All wheel drive transfers power
from on axle to the other, it doesn't lock both axles together. Most small SUV's are all wheel drive.

Front and back wheels were spinning this morning. She thought something was broke when I gave it a try. She said that the back wheels were spinning, but only one front wheel. My original assessment still stands. She's a poor driver.

you can complain all you want; but i tell you something . i lost my wife to cancer 4 years ago and i still miss her ,will to the day i die. Its like someone took my right arm away

That's fact Kent,, enjoy them while you can,,burnt toast or a stuck car don't seem like much latter on...all part of life...

I took your original entry as a semi-humorous, tongue-in-cheek way of venting over an annoying situation. Your responses which followed - especially when you stated your only peaceful time is when your wife is not around - have made me take you seriously. You have a real problem. Your wife blames you for creating the circumstances, and therefore the outcomes, of her irresponsible actions. And she meets you with defiance when you show her alternatives. Psychologists have a name for this type of behavior. You have three tough choices. You have to tell her she needs counseling - and put up with her reaction until she does. Or divorce her. Or live in your private piece of Hell on Earth.

I did, and she did. I backed the car into the garage one evening, and she backed it out the next morning.......
