JB Weld Toxicity

JB Weld claims their product is NOT toxic once fully cured, however one shouldn't consume cured JB Weld.

I am thinking of using JB Weld to fix a filter container in the refrigerator that filters the ice water and the water dispenser.

What are your thoughts?

MSDS sheets do not pertain to the end product obtained by mixing the two. They are only for the individual raw products. You can't dump raw fiberglass resin or it's catylist in the lake but combine the two and add fiberglass matt to make a boat and it can sit in the lake forever. The plastic that the refrigerator is made of that's being repaired in it's raw form is more toxic than JB weld. Once the toxic paint products applied to a car are cured chemically, you can lick the hood for weeks without risk.

Cured epoxy is pretty much inert. Because you can't get the mix exactly right, there may be some stuff in the cured expoxy that's bad for you; just wash it good once it's cured and you should be OK.

Epoxy may or may not stick to the particular plastic you're trying to bond. Their FAQ page says it won't stick to polyethlyene or polypropylene. If you can't find a triangular recycling mark on your part you can figure out what material you're working with.

I used JB Weld in plumbing hot and cold water manifolds for my house. Everything I could find said inert when cured. Nw rely pro,;lems sp far.

My dentist told me of a patient he had that repaired is dentures with JB weld, I just shook my head and said not for me, he didn't recommend it either.

They make some really good plastic glues these days that are available on store shelves. Everything worth its salt now is fast-setting. My days of JB Weld and PC-7 Epoxy are over since they need at least 24 hours to set.

That's just the question I wanted to ask. I need to fix my teeth and wondered if it was OK You can't just send your plates to a lab any more. You have to go through a dentist. He want's 110 dollars for office visit and 30 dollars shipping and handling and 100 dollars for the lab work. Several years ago I sent my plate to a lab in Buffalo NY and they only charged me 30 dollars shipping and fixing the plate. I called them this time and the lab man said the law won't allow them to do that any more .He said to thank the Dentist for getting that law in. So now I wonder if I might fix the plate with JB Weld ? Thanks Jack
