They've been talking about this storm coming so I
decided to start early and fill every feeder even if it
wasn't empty. There are 50 cows, calves, and new
heifers in the pasture. There are about 50 open
heifers, cows, and bulls on the milo stubble. Then
there are a few here and there in the infirmary, etc. I
thought I would take some pictures but then it
started raining. And raining. I hate using the 7800 to
feed because it is so big but it is FWA and that's all
that will get through now that it's been pouring for
hours. At least I got this feeding done with a smaller
tractor. The one pic is the bale mound without any
rain - you know how they get. The old 886 had to
have a run at it to get up there. It might be because
of that John Deere rim on her - she was angry! It's
still easier than that tractor with duals.

By the time I got in I had soaked up my bibs, jacket,
overalls, sweatshirt, undershirt, and two pairs of
chore gloves. Thank goodness for the wood stove.

We are supposed to dive to freezing and then have
six inches of snow. There's no hope for the trees
and power with as much ice as we will have. I have
the diesel generator plugged in and ready.

They are talking bad weather here too. I have about 500 cows on either corn or milo stalks. A touch over 1000 calves in the pens on feed, and 4 horses that thought they needed extra feed tonight. Cows were all spread out over the fields. SOme kind of weather is coming in.

I let the wife pick the color. It was all I could do to order that red stove from Vermont Castings. I was just sure it would look like a fire engine in the living room. It really looks cool with the slate, though. I'll give her this one.

That little stove heats this 2200 square foot 100 year old house. I'll swear by VC forever. It also dried all of my clothes in about two hours. Can't beat that.
