I have a JD 3010 gas that wont start. it ran good when i parked it, its getting gas, has spark I put on new fuel pump and teased it with starting fluid.Any Ideas

Some times they will flood out and won't start,,and you could have a shot of water in the system too,, you could pull the plugs spin it a few times and let it set with the plugs out,,then with another set of new plugs try it again,,it can be a Challenge...

Hi, easiest way to start a flooded engine is like another post said, remove the plug and spin the engine over and either install new plugs or take a blow torch to the cylinder end of the plug an burn off the wet fuel.

Pull spark plug wires off the plug about 3/8"; the extra gap will cause the spark to jump a wet plug. Old summer gas
will have a tough time vaporizing in cool weather.

I did take the air cleaner off top and bottom the top was full of water and the oil on the bottom was plum full water and oil mixed,I drained and refilled with new oil put it back on and got it to pop a few times but still no start.

Your finding out why I sold the last JD gas 10/20 series I owned. They do not run right on the gas blends we get today. As for your problems>

1) Get NEW spark plugs. Once they foul from flooding they do not seem to ever work right with the factory ignition system.

2) Drain some of the fuel out of the tank and drain the carburetor. You may have water in both. It will still wet the plugs and smell like regular gas but will not burn.

3) Check to see what your battery voltage is when your cranking the tractor over. If it is under 10 volts or so It will not have hot enough spark to fire. I have even had to pull start them after I have flooded them. Even with new plugs and good spark.

4) If your still not running check for a vacuum leak on the intake side of the manifold. I have seen gaskets fall out when the tractor is running that will make a large enough vacuum leak that the tractor will not start cold the next time.

I say B.S. to those who say gas 10/20 series are no good !

I have had a 4020 gas for about 23 years ? and it has been fine. Very reliable, I'd even say better than a stock diesel of the era as it has no 24 volt system to cause all that grief.
