Brave Soldiers Gave All

Saw these pictures this morning from Afghanistan. Made me think of what our freedom really costs as we celebrate Christmas. This is our world in the year 2015. In spite of the media's attempt to make this political because a gay woman soldier was killed in combat, that takes away nothing from the highest honor for these Americans who gave the ultimate sacrifice

(quoted from post at 07:40:41 12/24/15) All volunteer force that is there for love of god and country.

Well seeing as some of them don't believe in god at least love of country. These are truly great young men.

And just for your clarification, the current oath for both officers and enlisted still includes "so help me God" but there is no requirement to say that repeat that part of the oath and they tell people that BEFORE the oath is administered. In fact the original oath for enlistment DID NOT INCLUDE "so help me God" for enlisted personnel, only the officers had that way back in the 1700's.

Now soldiers are given the opportunity to attend services even while in basic training. But unlike it was when I went through in 74 there is no punitive action taken against anyone choosing not to attend. When I was in basic they marched us as a company to the chapel and those wishing to go in went in. Those who chose not to attend did police calls and physical training until services were over. I was lazy, I attended services. I did not enter another Army Chapel with the exception of attending services for fallen comrades and twice to attend weddings.

That's not saying I don't believe. Don't take that the wrong way. But having read the Bible I don't believe preachers any longer.

one brave soldier was buried 70 years ago today. Gen. George S. Patton Jr. who died on the 21st in Mannheim from injuries in a car wreck.

My Dad was in the 3rd Army, he said he had the guts. And when they had supplies they kept moving deeper into Germany
