641 ford wiring

In process of rewiring the little ford I am restoring. The tractor did not have a fuel gauge but has a sending unit in tank. It appears an amp meter was put in its place when a 12v conversion was done. So do most have the fuel gauge left out or not use an amp gauge? Was it originally equipped with an idiot light to show charging? Its my first ford and any help would be greatly appreciated! Merry Christmas!

The older 640 had a amp gauge and no fuel gauge.
Your later production 641 would have come from the factory with a idiot light and a fuel gauge.

When 12 volt conversions are done some convert over to the amp gauge for several reasons.
It could be.....
The idiot light and or the fuel gauge did not work. That idiot light is kinda hard to find.
They do not understand how to wire the alternator into a idiot light.
They cheap out and force the alternator to work with a 1 wire hookup rather than running all the wires for it to work properly.

Its your tractor so your call on what gauges you want.

Mine still has the 6 volt battery and I have no trouble with it yet. It is a 1960 model, has an idiot light for generator, and a fuel gauge, though I replaced all gauges when I bought it, the fuel gauge needs fuel when it gets just below a half tank. Have not figured that one out, just know I better be close to a gas can when the gauge shows half a tank. Hope it helps.
