battery tray

Guys........gotta 1994 Dodge Cummins Diesel pick'em-up and the headlite bulb (H-4) is burned out. I haffta remove the battery (12-volt) tray to gitt too the bulb. So far 2-bolts in wheel arch, 2-bolts in fender. And it feels like a bolt in CENTER of tray ...except... I kant gitt too itt from underneath the fender. So before I gitt the BFH out, thought I'd check iff'n ennybody has words of wizdom........puzzled Dell

I'd be looking for some sort of latch mechanism that allows the headlight to be removed for bulb replacement.

OTE: To access the bulb on 1994?96 models, you can reach behind the lamp, unplug and disconnect the halogen bulb.

On 1994?96 Pick-ups, open the hood for access to the mounting screws.
Remove the headlight bezel attaching screws and remove the bezel. On some models it may not be necessary to remove the bezel, depending on whether the headlight retaining ring is accessible.
WARNING
When dealing with replaceable halogen bulbs, never touch the glass. If you do, traces of oil from your fingerprints will cause premature failure of the bulb.

Fig. 3: Lift it away and set the bezel in a safe location with the mounting hardware


Remove the headlight ring attaching screws and remove the ring. Do not touch the headlight aiming screws.

Pull the lamp assembly out slightly and unplug the connector.

To install:

NOTE: As long as the adjusting screws were not moved, the headlight will be held in proper adjustment by the retaining ring.

Plug in the wiring to the light.
Install the headlight assembly.
If applicable, install the park and turn signal lamp.
Close the hood on 1994?96 Pick-ups.

On my '02 (gas) the manual says the battery has to come out, but I was able to pry the plastic fender liner enough to slip my hand up and get it from underneath. I remember thinking it probably wasn't any easier than just taking the battery out.
