On Saturday my aunt fell and broke her femur. She had a stroke about 4 years so doesn't get around as well. However, the break was on her bad side. Anyway, Sunday morning they did a hip replacement cause the break was up high. She's doing therapy and might go home tomorrow! Wow! I'm amazed how fast they fixed it. Gonna be a good Christmas after all!

Last year before I developed my own health problems, I had an elderly male client fall and break his hip. I don't remember the details of the break, but the nurse at the agency I worked for said it was bad. The guy was up and walking with a quad cane 3 days after surgery. He was a pretty big man...6'3" and 280 lbs...and he was 81 years old!

You aunt should follow the doctor's orders and do the rehabilitation as done by the therapist.

Good luck and best wishes!

My dad had his right hip done at 81. The type of bio glues they use now are just fantastic. The very best thing you can do is get your butt in gear as soon as possible!!! I had a sever medical problem years ago and after several weeks in bed you actually DO FORGET how to walk! It scares the begabbers out of you cause not only can't you balance and mussle tone is shot, you actually hurt cause all of the joints are full of fluids. Took several weeks till I could just strole around like normal. I was 50 at the time.

I had my first done in "09. Second one this summer. Now they do it as an outpatient if you"re under Medicare age, I"m 71 and they said I"d be in overnight. Was actually 2 since my BP was low. EXERCISE is key to full recovery- did mine for 6 months the first time. Both of mine were bone on bone, but this year"s was worse- needed a cane before replacement. Now the procedure is simpler, cutting with the muscle instead of across it, so recovery is sooner, and exercise was only 2 months.

Did she actually fall and then break it, or the more common I hear is the hip breaks and then they fall ?
Dad fell on ice one year and broke his. They would not operate because he just had breakfast earlier. Laid around all day in hospital with the blood getting into his leg. It took him a VERY long time to heal from this as his leg turned black and blue and was super stiff. Much faster to heal if it is scheduled or fixed right away.

My wife had her right hip done in the spring of '12 and was home in two days. We had a visiting nurse and a home health aide for a little while and then plenty of walking and now she is very happy with the new joint.

I had a hip replacement years ago, had it done on a Thursday, went to church that Sunday and after about a week I climbed up in my tree stand. I didn't climb fast but I crawled up slow
