The demise of Christmas cards your thoughts??

Seems as of late I don't get many (nor send many out). Seems like they have one out of style. Also notice it is usally older people that deal with them. Many companies have quite doing them also. Is it the cost of postage, or changing times??? Quite a few years back I kind of went to, if I got one I sent one back. Probably I was sending some to dead people or bad address.

As far as companies go they have cut that plus calendars and other promotional's due to cost. Younger people do email and so forth.

I get a lot of them...clients, friends, family. My wife sends out ours, don't know the list. Definitely not a dead thing here, though.

I don't care if we get any cards or not. I only look at the back of the card any way. I kinda like to see who cares enough to send the very best. Makes the old woman mad, Says I should have more respect.

Postage is one factor. It is also obviously asociated with religeon(actually paganism, another subject), which is dimishing in this country.

I think times are just changing with e-mails & video chats. Besides, to me it is not about the things you do once or twice a year, it's about the things you do throughout the year.

Sent off a bunch today. Not 200 by any means but the wife makes them and spends a whole lot of time doing it. Lot of them take extra postage for the bulk.

My wife gets a lot from her older clients. And some from family. But the younger folks are sending E cards, often with family pics. So, cheaper and easy, no going to the po to mail them.

Progress, I guess. You're not going to stop it.

Old Scovy, you sure you aren't looking for the price on the back to see who would spend that kind of money??????? When we need cards we go to Dollar Tree. Usually 45 cents unless the wife sees a really nice one then it can cost all the way up to $1.10. LOL We quit buying Hallmark when they had them made overseas and still cost the high price.

I never fell for the Hallmark marketing scheme. I go through my phone book this time of year and call people who are too far away to visit or invite for dinner.

We always get a lot of them but my wife always sends out many and always with a hand written personal note or letter in each one. It always takes her a day or two but that is part of the "Joy of Christmas" for us.

What!! You call people who are TOO FAR AWAY and invite them for a visit or for dinner??

What kind of a person are you!!!

Just messing with you. I know what you meant. It's just how I read it at first!! Merry Christmas.

I am old school yet for being 47. I still send cards to people that are important to me and live faraway also. I like the personal satisfaction of a hand written card. My 16 year old daughter is quite the artist and even creates her own for people. I just think that people now days are lazy and would rather do everything by computer. Kind of sad to me. Just my thoughts.

No I wasn't I just do it to be stupid and the old woman hollers at me. My sister in-law always buys me the cheapest card she can find, some times she sends a used one but she always writes on the back Hallmark..LOL I remember back on the farm and Christmas cards were very important. We didn't have TV so at night after supper every one would talk about what someone said in there card. I guess it is faded out these days.

It's because we're more connected than ever before in other ways.
We have Snap chat, email, facebook, face time, unlimited long distance on our cell phones, texting, twitter and who knows what other ways to communicate.
Makes an old fashioned Christms card seem less important.
Think about it, a video of the grandkids opening their presents on Christmas Morning is a Lot more fun than just a card.

Well, speaking of Hallmark, since they gave so much money to the anti gun crowd, I stopped buying that brand. And first class stamps are 49 cents, so it adds up. We don't send as many out as we used to..

Wife still sends them out, but complains the whole time. I tell her that if she doesn't like to do it then..... don't. She thinks it's an obligation of sorts.

What cracks me up are some relatives who have a picture converted into a card with their name and greeting superimposed on it. Then they have the secretary at work print address labels and return labels, stuff the cards into an envelope and run them through a postage meter. Real personalized, eh?

Then there are the people who include a printed letter bragging about all the wonderful things happening in their lives.

We sent out about 90. We've gone the printed address label route also, and for the last 3 years we've done the photo card with our picture and with our name printed on it also.
We usually send the brag letter out too, but dropped that this year. Not that much has changed since last year, so nothing really to put in it. I thought once about sending last year's letter again, just crossing out and changing the date! :D

(quoted from post at 08:15:43 12/24/15) There's a whole generation out there now that thinks Christmas is not politically correct.

And how! Now I don't send em out. I call the people who I want to talk to and wish them a Merry Christmas. But yea a lot of people don't think they are PC.
