The Wind And Feeding

After cleaning out the stack yard, had to plow 8 miles of county road just to get back to the supper table last night.

ya know Allan, i'm kinda thinking the polar ice cap re-located smack dab in the middle of your farm. geez you get a lot of snow out there!!!

Now that's dedication! Does that ever bother you being out that far and having an equipment problem? I have an uncle that ranches in Wheeler county but he has things set up close to home in the winter.

Trouble with this country, after every snow storm, the next day is followed by high winds. Kind of a two for one deal. :>)

I know how miserable it can be there. We built the new grain elevator just NW of Chadron and although I didn't spend a lot of time there, I spent enough to know what the cold wind is all about. And I'm from the middle of Kansas!! Probably be 60 degrees next week though so hang in there. Bob

Then it drifts shut by the next morning. :(

Ahhh, the joys of living in the Near-Arctic North. We should all just go south every winter... every last one of us northerners - just abandon post until spring. LOL

You guys are in the South compared to us in Sask. Surprisingly I think we have less snow than in Alan's photos. Although that can change overnight. This one was April of 2013.

I have frozen different parts of my body being out in the cold wind on an open station tractor. I'm really happy I don't have to go out in the cold to take care of a bunch of grumpy sows.

Well not sure what is better here fighting snow or fighting MUD either way it is not fun . For us over here in the Buckeye it is MUD . Though we are not freezing some days we are getting really damp while putting out the round bales . Though we can try and pick the dry days to grind feed . I can atleast not be pressure now to get the War Dept.'s Durango fixed in a big rush . Almost 220000 miles on the old girl and we are having and ISSUE with the electric solenoids in the transmission . I had to order them in from the Goat store . But i found her a new ride for a price we could afford . So now she can drive the car on the decent days and get double the fuel mileage and when the weather gets like what you have she can drive the trusty Durango that will get her there and back . She has some really nasty roads to drive now , old roads that have not changed since i started driving . Lots of steep hills and sharp curves . So this year i am thankful for the milder weather here.

Rusty6,

You're right. We're nearly in the tropics compared to you...BUT you guys do send us a lot of cold and snow! Maybe just don't do that this year. :)

I keep hoping for a snow-free, ice-free winter... but pretty sure we'll probably get a lot of FREE snow and ice instead.

Poor old girl, its been rough this winter in western iowa but at least I have hills for the gals to stand on.
