Plow packer and drill

Not sure where to post this but here goes. I have been lurking on this site for about 10 years, just registered today. I grew up on a diversified farm in North Dakota in the late 60's/early 70's. I'm looking for a picture of a setup like my Dad had on the farm. We had 2 John Deere R's and in the spring we would plant everything on the farm with what we called Plow, packer and drill. Behind the R's we had what I determined was a John Deere 66 plow, with the packer and pony drill. This setup was common in the upper mid-west and Canada. Folks here in Washington where I live now have never heard of this. When I was old enough to run the tractor in the field I couldn't wait to get home from school in the spring to get out in the field and drive the R with this setup. What I'm looking for is a good picture of a plow with the packer and drill behind it. Not as much concerned if it's pulled by a R.
I'm pretty good at stained glass and want to make a stained glass piece but need a good picture to work with to make a pattern. Doesn't need to be colored. Can anyone help? Thank you!

When I started farming in the late sixtys, everybody here, E SD, used a pony press drill and spring plowed a lot of the small grain in. I had a Case 930 Western and new 2000 Allis pull type 5-16s plow and a new 7' Kirschmann packer and drill behind it. Sowed a lot of grain that way.

I wish I could help you with the picture. I too grew up in ND (Kulm) and covered many acres with a L Case, 4 bottom 55B JD plow, packer and International press drill. Your story is almost exactly like mine except for the tractor. My uncle drove a 500 Case diesel with a 5 bottom JD plow, so we had 9 bottoms per round. We had fertilizer boxes on the drills.

It's been a few years, but I remember seeing a set up like that listed for sale on this site in the photo ads.

Now that"s funny- on the "more here" site....my HM rubber tire packer is pictured there in the first set of pics. Must have gleaned it from here, cuz I"ve never posted it anywhere else.

The R I have is from Fessenden ND and it pulled a 4-14's Deere plow, packer and drill. I still kick myself for not buying that plow too! The plow Went for $35 on the farm sale. It belonged to my step mother's dad.

I have a picture of an R pulling a 4 bottom plow and a press drill from the sale brochure for an R, but can't seem to get it to upload tonight. GRRRRRR Will try agaun tomorrow morning.

Believe it or not, there are still a few people that plant with those setups. Would be more along the lines of 12-14 bottoms and a 4wd tractor though.

my neighbor had the plow, packer, seeder set up when i bought his 4 btm jd plow, asked me if i wanted the whole setup, i said what for? wanted $50 for it, now several years later wish i had taken it. his dad brought it from dakota

My brother used one of those in the light soil on his farm; we couldn't use that at the home farm with all of the sticky gumbo soil. Often we had to use the field cultivator and then let the soil dry for a day or two so the discs on the drill wouldn't get balled up with gumbo.

Thanks for all the responses, the pic from the sales brochure is exactly what I was looking for, yes I did notice that it is a five bottom plow, seems like that would be a pretty heavy charge for the R. Thanks again!
