I was just reading this on the net. At least you're only looking for one.

"Ben K. Green wrote "Wild Cow Tales," "Horse Tradin," "The Village Horse Doctor" and "Some More Horse Tradin?"?all of which we read in our youth. We were reminded of Green and his books this week by the tale of 77 year-old British cowboy Michael H. Johnson, who has been after a herd of wild Scottish Highland cattle for two months. The cows once belonged to a neighboring family but 16 of them have been roaming freely for about two years. He?s trapped seven head so far, and he?s had the others in a trap briefly. Johnson says the herd only comes out at night, but they eat hay in the neighborhood, knock over fences and trample gardens."

Actually we're after two. The one we thought was shot was just seen with the other one. So that's twice as much fun.

But 16... I can't even imagine!

Maybe it's job security. At 77, rounding up this herd could last his lifetime. If it were me, after the first week I'd be catching them with a 30.06. Being he's in England, an Enfield would be acceptable.

I actually have all the books by Ben. If your interested in old time western texas living and how many of the illnesses and poisonings from plants they are awesome. Couple books just talk about his life before becoming a vet. Talked about different cow or horse trades he made starting at age 13. Been reading of the cattle chase on the forum. I have only ran into long term chases a couple times in my life. At the 4 or 5th day the local vet said we might as well just shoot on sight as at that point the meat has been infected with the adrenaline for to much time and the meat would be unusable. Does anyone know if that is wrong or not. I would think if they are not being chased continually and are just moving at their pace with occasional chases all should be good.
