Old 1939 (?) Model Car

Hi,

I was in town at our local Lowes store and as I was getting into my car I heard a car pulling in behind me and looked up to see this restored beauty pulling in behind me !! Waited on the driver to get out and go in and took a quick picture ! License plate decorative trim said 1939 on it !

I googled Cord, and they went out about 1938, dies bought by Hupmobile and re-started 1n 1940 as a Hupmobile Skylark model. Looks like that one. Cord car had retractable headlamps.

Cord sold the body dies for the "coffin nose" model 812 to Graham Paige, who did not have the machines to stamp the body and let Hupmobile make the bodies and sell some too as the Hupp "Skylark". The Graham model was called the "Hollywood", and featured a supercharged six cyl engine. The car was converted to rear wheel drive and the first few made actually had the tunnel beaten into the floorpan with sledghammers.

Weldor, I gotta agree with you... ot DOES look a bit like this 1939 Chevy.

its nice to see one that looks like it should back in the day i had a 1938 chevy 2 door sedan? not the coupe, this body had the back seat in the car, not as a rumble seat i did make it a modern drive train, in my defense i started with a body only, drug out of a farm pasture, no drive train in it, but the body was stock what should have been chrome was chrome not blacked out im not a fan of the blacked out look was a nice driver, but i never did find a set of running boards for it

Eric, I've always been of the opinion that, in the case of the '37 and '38 Chevys, 2-door sedans were better looking than the coupes.
