2004 Trail Blazer Tranny

The inevitable happened today. Traveling down the road 65mph cruise set, next thing I know engine wraps out and loose forward motion. Hear a click click click as it slows down. Shut engine off once stopped re-start, engine runs ok but when I put it in any gear nothing happens. Truck has 225000 (bought it with 27000) on the clock and no problems up to this point. Just curious as to what could of let loose, it has had transmition shudder for about the last 2 years so knew this day was coming. TIA; Merle

No strange noise or anything, just all the sudden in neutral? This is not a real common problem for a 4L60E type trans. As long as the fluid level was fine before this happened, if the pump quit working then the fluid level would measure high on the stick. This could also mean that the filter broke or somehow fell off the pump intake and the pump is sucking air. Check the fluid level and condition, if its burnt smelling then something bad has already happened. If its real low or high you might be able to fix or band aid for awhile with a fluid service and filter ( keep fingers crossed )

shudder last few years... Did it do it when you accelerated and went away when you were in cruise on flat ground are let off the throttle. Did dips in the road make it come and go...

Check transfer case oil if you can not touch it with a wire pull the drain plug... I have seen them completely out of fluid no noise but a shutter complaint the unit had to be replaced... All you need is a 18MM wrench and a drain pan...

Any chevy owner of this vintage should keep a check on the transfer case they leak so slow you may not notice the leak till its to late... Weak rear case housing is also a killer...

You said with it running you put it in gear and nothing happens.
With it running if you put it in reverse for a second or two then go right back to park are you getting a clicking/grinding sound?
If so your problem is likely downstream of the transmission.

Possibly the pump lugs, but it sounds more to me like he may have stripped the splines off the turbine hub in the torque converter. The input shaft splines don't strip often, but it's fairly common for the input shaft drive hub splines to wear out, especially if there's a lot of miles on the rig.
Just driving down the road and giving up like that doesn't sound like pump lugs to me.
