Found my plow today.

Discovered last week some had stolen my John Deere M plow. I found it today in a local scrap yard. Going to pick it up Monday. It was stored in a shed behind my parents house which we rent out. Been there for years. There was a trailer plow there that was not bothered along with various other metal things. Don't know if they were stealing a plow and found out unless they had a M John Deere it was useless to them or what. Probably only got 5 or 6 dollars for it. Man that owns the yard said he would load it up for me Monday. Nastiest people living in this house I have ever seen. I did not rent it to them the people I did rent it to moved them in with them and then left. Had to do the whole 9 yard thing with eviction.

Hate to say this, but get what you want out of the house and doze it or burn it.

Renting out rural property is an uphill piece of business.

Too many horror stories.

Glad you got your plow back, most of that stuff is never seen again.

I just spent $3,000 to put sucker rod fencing around my shop entrance so I could lock things up tighter, and I have a 4 camera security system in my shop.

And that is with a real good neighbor living right next door to my farmstead.

Haven't had a lot of problems, but any problem is too much.

If you are going to continue to rent out the house, get all your stuff off the place. Or just pull it out by the road and put up a sign "free stuff". End result is the same- if the lowlife renters don't steal it, their loser friends will.

My parents moved out of the farm house a year ago. I have an older brother and and younger brother. They think the old farm place is a free storage vacility now. I've been cleaning out the house and selling what I can. But my brothers keep bringing items over to put in the 3 sheds that are there. Younger brother put his car in the garage because he doesn't drive it but yet he has 3 daughters that are away in college but don't have a car. My Older brother keeps bringing items out to build raised garden beds. He has a farmall H tractor in the pole shed plus a wooden wheel wagon and throws his aluminum cans into that then he has his 5 x 10 trailer there too. My younger brother keeps the key in the Cub Cadet mower that is there to mow the grass. I told them things will eventually walk off. I feel like loading up the lawn mower, air compressor and a few other items that will fit on my brothers trailer and pull the trailer outside to make it look like some one was in the process of taking it but got spooked off and left the trailer set...

I've about given up on our justice system. Exactly a year ago, I had two vehicles stolen. BY SHEER LUCK (and a little help from my niece who works in law enforcement), my vehicles were found about an hour and a half away in another county. The guy and his wife had about $100K worth of stolen merchandise on their residence. Since she was also arrested, the wife flipped on him and told the DA everything. He was found guilty, got probation and is NOT serving any time. I spent well over $600 of my money to get my vehicles back, including the impound fee from the towing yard. (I haven't figured out why they couldn't take that money from the thief. I just know they get all the rights) The cops gave me only a two day notice to retrieve my vehicles or they would be sold on public auction. I had to take a day off of work to get them back. The victim's compensation fund won't give me a dime because I live in a different county of the convicted thief.
Since there was a lot of other stolen property recovered that was taken from my county, I talked to my county DA about pressing charges on the thief. They won't do a thing.
So I'm out of a bunch of money and time, the thief sits at home on probation and lives off of welfare and my county won't prosecute.
Par for the course, I guess.

absolutely par. Cost me $2500 to recover my equipment & the Pros. Atty. let him go after they seized my machines in his yard!

If he was convicted in the other county for stealing your stuff then he can't be tried again. He is protected by the double jeopardy thing.

If you know who stole it and they were convicted you can sue them in a civil suit. Problem is if you win and they don't have assets you can seize you won't get anything but aggravation. If you know someone who is good with social media you might be able to launch an attack on the DA at election time but that's only effective if he has opposition, idea there is to shame him into doing something. Track your costs in recovery and see if you can write them off of your taxes or collect from your insurance company. Sometimes a claim from the insurance company will cause action by the legal community or the thief, many insurance companies have lawyers on their staff and figure the more they use them the more they get for their money and the D.A or Sheriff finds it's easier to deal with the thief then the harassment from the insurance company.
