Still searching for the missing calves.

Heard through the grapevine today that a hunter mistook one for a deer and took a shot at it, but he doesn't know if he hit it.

So, I'm worried it's now injured and suffering.

That's exactly what we were worried would happen, and the reason we're so nervous about going into those woods to search. Hard to undo a mistake like that.

I was always taught that if you're going to kill something, be g#$(#mm SURE what it is you're about to kill. But - I guess I can also understand not expecting a cow in the woods... but... well, I'm not going to dwell on it. We'll search for a blood trail tomorrow.

That was my thought when I saw the photo, the color would be enough for some guys to shoot at. I always tell the people who hunt our place to not shoot anything that "moos"...

Anyone who shoots a 600 pound calf and claims they thought it was a 150 pound deer either wants beef or is really dangerous.

Typical hunter for ya .any idiot that can't tell a calf from a deer are the people that give external_link the reason to want our guns and when you see things like this you wonder if he isn't right .

LAA Around here they shot at anything that moves in the woods during deer season. I have had two full grow cows shot in the last 15 years. I now move the cows/calves into a dry lot close to the house during gun season. The primitive and bow hunters seem to be a better mannered bunch. I have not had any issues with them.

Remember when hunters used to tie their deer to the hood of their car and drive through town? I worked with a guy once who was from NY State. He said that one day one such hunter proudly circled the town square with a shetland pony strapped to his hood.
