Im looking at a farmall super c. I don't know a ton about it but the guy has told me that it has ran great all summer after he had his friend remachine the cylinders and the compressions were all good. now he said it won't run more than 5 minutes. He thinks its either something with the carb or the distributor? any ideas? also is it worth buying regardless? great tires on back, good paint all the way around, no wheel weights. only asking $850 and said he's gotten a ton of calls but i happened to be the first.

Super handy tractor, if the tires are good do it.

Can't be much more than a fuel or spark problem. Both easy to check,if tires are good and sheetmetal fair I would buy it.

Probably the inlet to the sediment bulb (from the bottom of the fuel tank) is partially plugged. Good way to check is, when it starts to stall out, pull the choke. If it runs OK with the choke partially engaged, it means you've reduced the air flow to match the restricted fuel flow. Take off sediment bulb fixture, flush out the tank, and give it another go.

In any event, its not something real serious, so I would probably buy it. Helpful buying tip- don't do anything to try to fix it until you've got it bought. More than one guy has fixed a tractor during the negotiating stage and ended up paying much more (or having it withdrawn from sale). "Typical rookie mistake". In fact, to avoid conflict, buy it and get it home before you do anything- so the guy doesn't feel like he's been hosed.

I would buy it for the tires if you chckrd them for dry rot or cracks. Did you run it for 5 min and observe the stall ?
One the gas or spark will be absent.
Check that block over real good for cracks and welds carb side .
Check the radiator for oil in the cooling system. ainti freeze in oil ?
Check the start up for moisture coming out exhaust,
Check the Clutch, sound stallengine if drive it and with brakes depressed should stall engine if clutch is good.
$850 sound very cheap to me for a SC without issues

I was thinking the same about it being so cheap and that's why I'm nervous. But the parts and tires are probably close to that cost I hope

I paid $1500 for my Farmall C, it came with a belly mower. They are very simple to work on. If it
has spark, gas and good compression should run. Wish mine had 3 pt, but I use it all the time to
mow and pull dump trailer. Little tip, the fuel adjustment screw is backwards. Screw it in all the
way and you make the mix richer.

If it runs good for 5 minutes then it is a good tractor with a minor problem. You can not go wrong for that price and condition. Finding the problem might get under your skin for a while though.
Does the coil get too hot? Is it still a 6 volt system or has it been changed over to 12 volts? Might need a resistor to reduce the voltage. Otherwise it is just a fuel restriction and that should not be to tough to figure out.
