Weird weather

Late morning today we had a big blue sky so I decided to drive out to the farm and get some work done. Half way there and I see ahead a wall of gray. Fog so thick, some parts you could only see about a 10th of a mile. Drove the truck up to the elevator, stopped and got gas. Still heavy fog. Everything soaking wet, temp never got above 29. Kicked around for a couple hours and then headed for the house again. When I got home the blue sky was still there, sun shining, nearly 50 degrees. Only a 20 mile distance. Weird weather and I could really have used to have it reversed.

We were under the fog and clouds all day. At noon they said visibility in Ionia was zero.

Some outfit in Seattle keeps track of lumens received over the course of the day. News just said today was the darkest day in 9 years. Rained all day, sure seemed dark, guess it was.

The fog never lifted at my house today. I'm 300 ft. off the road out front, I could hear traffic going by but couldn't see it. I'm a little south of Flint. My wife said it was clear when she their today.

Foggy all day here. Dense fog advisory till ten this morning, then noon, then three, raised enough to haul two loads of corn. Was really dark at 3:30, yard lights came on, Central IL.

It was foggy early here, stayed that way till noon. Really surprised when I went out at 7 am, with my dogs. The frost was so heavy, it looked like it had snowed. I'm about 7 miles nw of Howell.

Had a clear day here (west Ohio) but the strange thing was it got hazy (foggy) in late afternoon, then a little while later it was clear again.

We had the fog yesterday here in eastern NY, I don't think I burned a cord of wood yet this year. Looks to be warm right threw to Christmas, by warm I mean in the 40s and 50s. That's unusual for here, I saw on the weather tonight the whole country is above freezing! At least it's not been so wet that we have deep mud.

Here pretty sunrise this morning, up to 62 today and pretty sun set tonight. Weather man said the clouds are at the right height to make it look pretty. Also said could expect this week to be nice and next week also.

Stayed foggy around Ashley and St.Johns all day today. Haven't seen a day like that in a long time. Maybe when you get a wierd winter thaw or something. Still foggy out there tonight.

I guess we were above the fog, but I have a stupid dandelion on the front lawn going to seed. Unheard of in December.

That drives me nuts! When it's foggy, about two out of three cars that go by don't have their lights on. I have to cross the road to feed cows. I have to shut the tractor off and listen for cars before I dare cross.

I finally have a vehicle with fog lights. I can't see that they offer any advantage in normal conditions. Yet it's gotten so that half the vehicles I meet at night have their fog lights on. That creates enough more glare that I notice it. So this is great, an option drivers like to employ which doesn't help them, but has a negative effect on all the drivers they meet! Can't there be some middle ground where drivers use their lights appropriately?

My 07 F250,the headlights come on when I start the truck. The tail lights and dash lights don't,just the headlights.

(quoted from post at 21:36:26 12/07/15) OH and I cant believe the cars, especially the gray and silver ones, that didn't have their lights on. Followed a silver Buick and it just disappeared in the fog when I could see the taillights of the car in front of it.

His day running lights were probably on.Does nothing for the cars behind him trying to maintain a safe distance behind him.

You can blame tecnolage for that. Those cars likely have automatic headlights that the owners do not realize that even tho indicators say lights are on the headlights are only on at half power as a driving only indicator, not ment to be able to see where you are going and in that mode the tail lights do not come on. I have a silver Buick that my late wife drove and I finley got here to understand that even tho they come on in darkness they will not turn on in daylight with fog. You have to manually over ride the automatic system. They should have been outlawed and recalled but never happened as they are a dangerous system. I never did like that Buick but she did and a car was needed so we got it. I did not know about that DA---- headlight switch or would never have agreed to buy the car. And I know that systen was used at least as far back as 1998 and was I later found out touted as a safty in there sales.

What you are seeing and they are calling fog lights are in actuall reality driving lights and not fog lights. A true fog light has a yellow-amber color to the light and they do work if adjusted correctly but you can only find them as aftermarket and then still some of the companys call there driving lights fog lights. Those built in lights the beam is designed for distance, and that white light just reflects off the fog, the good yellow bean does not reflect off the fog. Yes there were some true beam designed clear fog lights that the beam was designed to be at least 5-6 times as wide as it is high. But they would still reflect off the fog but they did not when adjusted correctly hit the fog at any higher than 2' from ground.. Those things they sell as fog lights are nonadjustable and set on the samy plane as your high beams, a correctly adjusted fog light will be on same plane as your low beams. The Dodge truck I had they would only turn on with the high beams and turn off when you went to low beam, I think they changed that to stay on wether low or high beam. And a good properly adjusted proper fog light will tripple your ability to see. But then when they do the good is atspeeds below 40 MPH, those things they call fog lights are designed to supposedly help you see at 65MPH.

We used to pasture our dairy cows half the time across the road. We had a few very near misses even when we could hear them coming. We also stopped a lot of cars. Glad we don't do that any more.
