Home Depot Find

Came across this while wandering the Home Depot yesterday. Looks like just the ticket for you guys with a pump house in the cold climates.

On at 35deg. Off at 45 deg. Made in usa. $13. Would probably pay for itself in electricity savings.

(quoted from post at 09:47:39 12/03/15) Excuse me made in U.S.A not china. wow how did that happen..

"Made in USA" means nothing anymore, especially if it says "Of globally sourced parts" right after it. These could very well be made in the US, but they probably were made in China, shipped over in barrels, and put in the bubble wrap packaging by low wage workers....

Other weasel phrases - "Packaged in the USA" "Assembled in the USA" "Proudly made in America" (Mexico is in North America) It doesn't even do any good to read the label anymore. Corporations emasculated the Country Of Origin Labeling during the Bush II presidency.

But at least the shareholders are making their millions and billions....

I saw them in a Farm&Home a couple of days ago. I didn't like the on at 35 degrees. I would like one that wouldn't come on until about 20-25 degrees. That's when my tanks start freezing up and my tractors needs to be plugged in.
I wondered if you could get one that you could manually adjust for my needs?

Hello Mike M,

1500/120=12.5
Normal 15amp ideal max circuit load should be 12amps.
It should work though,

Guido.

I've used several of these exact units for several years to turn on and off cat and dog heat lamps in my garage and machine sheds. I've had no problems with them over the years. I just bought six more at Mills Fleet Farm (upper Midwest big box chain) a couple of weeks ago on sale for $8.99 each. The price was too good to pass up as spares.

Actually, the package said 15 amp, so that's not his unknown.
P = IV, so P = 15 amp (from package) * 120 V = 1800 watt nominal rating. 1500 watt is still probably a good max.

I have one of these to regulate a radiant heater in my chicken coop. Works great and eliminates the fire hazard of a heat lamp. Chickens be happy now in the winter!

I've seen them at Home Depot also. Your comments led me to the Thermocube website....and they have products that turn on/off at other temps...for example one that turns on at 20deg and off and 30deg. Suspect they are special order items from a hardware store but might be stocked by Amazon for example

If it says made in USA, that means USA, China. China has a town called USA. If it says made in "The USA", maybe built here.

(quoted from post at 10:56:27 12/03/15) Nice! What is the amperage rating? Might be good for plugging in diesel engine heaters too.

The packaging in the photo says 15 amps.

Years ago we used on of those on the block heater on the 4020 along with a timer. We plugged the timer in and set it so that it ran about 3-4 hours every morning then plugged the temp block into the timer and the block heater into the temp block.

By doing that the block heater only came on when both parameters had been met. It worked really well for us. Usually by mid morning you would know whether you needed to start the tractor. Was never an issue.

Nope they were doing that during the early part of Clinton's first term. I bought a battery power razor that said on the package "Made in the USA". Little sticker inside the battery compartment and another inside the head said "Made in China".

Since the consequences of frozen pipes / tanks are serious, I alsways use TWO such devices, in parallel. I sleep secure worry-free then.

So if it goes below 32 degrees and stays at the upper 20s, but not below 25, your tank doesn't freeze? Wow, that's magical. Send some of that voodoo my way.

(quoted from post at 16:05:50 12/03/15) That thing would be turning the light on and off all night long in my pump house even on nights where no heat was needed.

I do not even plug in my light in till we are expecting 28° for 4 hours.

Things are different when you live where the daytime high doesn't reach 28F for 5 months out of the year........

It goes back further than that. When I was in Korea in 82 there were streets lined with shops making Dunham boots. I watched the "Made in the USA" tag being sewn on.
