Leaving feedback on ebay

Sellers on ebay want you to fill out feedback asap. If you do, then have an issue with an item,
good luck getting results. So, I purchased 3 18v batteries and one was defective. Told the seller
about it and seller wanted me to send them $8 and they would send me another one. I went to fill
out the feedback on seller and clicked on negative. Then ebay steps in and wants me to work with
seller first before ebay steps in. Well seller has decided to change their policy after I said I
will return the defective battery and want a full refund. So seller told me to keep the battery
and are going to send me another battery. I haven't got the battery yet. This is the first time
I've gotten a bad battery off ebay.

Lesson learned, don't leave feedback. You can use it as leverage if you have a defective item.
Fill out feedback, you can't change it, seller will do nothing and ebay won't step in either.

So did eBay stop you from leaving negative feedback? I'm getting ready to leave negative feedback on some material that was not as promised however the seller swears it is and doe snot want to replace it.

Click on negative and ebay will tell you to first try to work it out with seller. Your message will
go through ebay, so they can see what seller says. ebay will also set a time limit. Just try it.

I will. I have been communicating with the seller (who has 100% positive) and told them I did not want to give them negative feedback, thought that would make them think. When I'm ready to go I'll probably just go ahead and leave it.

I used to fill out the feedback, don't really bother with it anymore.

I did have to return an item the other day. I sent a message to the seller, explained the problem (a defective item), got no response. So I filled out a return form. Immediately I got a prepaid shipping label, put it in the mail, submitted a tracking number, had a refund issued in 2 days.

You do have to check their return policy, if they indicate no returns, I usually don't buy it if there is any possibility of having a problem.

Ebay is very biased toward helping the buyer. It is better for them if buyers have a "positive" experience no matter what.

Feedback on eBay is very important to sellers. Most buyers will not wade through hundreds of positive feedbacks to evaluate a seller. They will look for the negatives and neutrals. After all, if a buyer is satisfied, what more is there to say? I am more interested in the problem transactions to see what kind of problems came up and how the seller dealt with them.

I have been buying on eBay for over 10 years. I have had maybe 3 or 4 problems, but only got burned once. Guy misrepresented a coin, and after going back and forth for a couple of weeks, I got tired of the whole thing and just let it go. Got nicked for about $35 on that one. But that was the ONLY time in hundreds of transactions. Most sellers will go out of their way to make sure that you are a satisfied customer. Negative feedback is very damaging to a seller. I would not leave a negative feedback unless it was really deserved.

Feedback is the most valuable tool for buying on ebay.
Before buying anything, I check FB and I am not as concerned with the Positive as I am with the Negative and Neutral.
Also, for some reason, ebay gives a seller 100% FB AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME--(ONE YEAR?). I always scroll through older FB!
I never leave FB until seller leaves FB for me.
After cleared payment, seller has no reason for leaving anything but a Positive.
Read ebays policy for returning items.
With, not as described or damaged items, SELLER pays return shipping.
I have bought hundreds of items and have only left ONE Neutral FB.

Small world---I had problems with a seller also and he had sold a coin, don't remember what coin, with problems. Sounds like it might have been you.

I LOVE POSTING FEEDBACK AFTER I MAKE A PURCHASE. It seems almost every time Ive left Negative or even Neutral the Sellers have e mailed or contacted me and even called me on the phone and tried to work with me and/or offer me the product completely free or at a reduced cost or offered a complete refund or another item. Ive ended up with several items FREE and Ive never had a bad experience when I left Negative or even Neutral feedback.

OF COURSE others may have had different experiences and bad results and choose NOT to use it AND THATS THEIR FREE CHOICE

I can ONLY report my positive experiences I cant advise others to use or not use it, do as you please. I also will do as I please since Ive had such good results in the past, sorry for others who have not.

I have given a positive feed back and found it was the wrong part. I took pictures and set it to Ebay. They sent it to the seller who never answered. After a short time my Paypal account was credited with the full amount. I guess I didn't have to but I sent the part back to the seller and never heard a thing from him. This seller always has several pages of parts to sell. I did have several email to answer back to ebay thru the deal.

I don't leave any feedback UNTIL I have recieved product and it checks out. Yea they alert you to feedback the minute you buy/pay for something. I don't have any yet, transaction isn't final yet , why leave feedback ? When I sell, I don't expect feedback until everyone is happy.

As soon as they pay I leave them feedback . If they don't give me feedback I don't care . If ebay says I'm not a Power seller I don't care . I have 100 % feedback.

I bought a bicycle off ebay and the Idiot seller shipped the entire bicycle in a UPS bike box, minus the wheels.
He said there was not enough room for 29" wheels and shipped them by USPS.
Got the bike a few days later and there was plenty of room left for wheels. The wheels tracking showed the wheels delivered in Arizona--next day?? I am in Alabama.
I contacted seller and he said he didn't know where the wheels were and for me to trace them through USPS???
I did and USPS said they were returned to shipper because of insufficient postage.
I then contacted the seller and he stated he would not comment on shipping anymore for me to just wait!
I opened a dispute with ebay resolution and they changed his mind . LOL
Bike frame shipping took 5 days and wheels took 12!!!

I gave him a Neutral ( Now wish I had left Negative) and stated--"Seller created problems, blamed shipper!"

I've had only a few bad experiences on ebay and those were after I gave seller a positive rating and found item they sold me was defective. So I like to keep my options open and not leave anything.

I got a message from a seller saying eBay limited him because I had not posted FB- I responded that the item he shipped me did not work, would he like me to post negative FB? last I heard from him...

So are you saying that you leave sellers a negative or neutral feedback just for the purpose of getting something for free?? I could never do that.

If I am satisfied with a transaction, I leave a positive feedback. If I am NOT satisfied, I contact the seller. But, like others, I do not leave feedback until I am satisfied or the deal is dead.

ebay is like any other transaction, some buyers / sellers are honest and some are not so much. I have bought a lot of items on ebay and never had a problem. My son and I have sold several hundred thousand dollars worth of parts and tractors on there and have 100% positive feedback. I think it is a fair place to do business. As a seller, it is an incredible amount of work. There isn't enough profit for us to hire help so we do everything ourselves. You have to identify the part, take pictures, write up the add, answer questions, package it, track payment, and ship it. Somehow you have to keep track of all this. I will do anything I can to make a buyer happy but sometimes you just plain goof up. You have to pay ebay fees and PayPal fees and you often loose money on shipping. I am retired from my regular job now and I plan on doing more selling. I have to figure out ways to do it more efficiently.

Like everything else, try to put yourself in the other persons shoes.
