On the TV the Christmas toy stuff is going nuts. Most everything on there is some sort of weird junk. I can remember when There used to be commercials for good old real metal Tonka toy trucks! Toy trains from Lionel. Real ride it down the street bicycles! Am I getting toooo old?
Oh wait, how about that Chia pet I always wanted?

at a auction a few weeks ago they had some bent and rusted Tonka toys, two dump trucks one red, a grader and the frontend loader,,, I wanted the grader and the red truck ran them all to 85 bucks each, let a guy have the grader for 90, the red truck I was going to get but a young Dad and his boy, 5-6 years old really wanted it, the look in his face I told the auctioneer to let him have it,,, a friend with me thought I was nuts lol

You can buy those toys today. They are called "Tonka Retros". I bought my 3 year old grandson a Tonka Mighty Dump Truck, A Tonka road grader, A Tonka bulldozer and a Tonka quarry dump truck. All metal, just like the originals. About $25 bucks a piece. The metal went out of favor because they did damage when they hit furniture and woodwork. I bought these for a sandbox I built for my grandson. It has a ton of sand in it. You can buy these Tonka models almost anywhere. I got mine at Outback Toys after I had walked by them at Fleet Farm where they were at a higher price.

Remember Daisy BB guns being advertised as the HOT toy???? How about the cap guns that where made out of real metal and looked pretty close to a real gun???? All the toys my Grand Kids are getting anymore rarely last out the season. They are mostly poorly made plastic toys. Many of these are "name" brand toys too.

I saw a Clapper ad yesterday, thought they were gone but no!

And i saw a Chia Pet ad a couple weeks ago.

No pocket fisherman tho.

I know a guy named Clapper, his 'friend' bought him a Clapper for a Christmas present, he was not amused.

I have seen them as well but not the same built toy they were back then,,, I wanted the originals as I have most every other one from my child hood, thanks for the heads up though

When I was a kid all we had was bark. And we were glad to have it! ;-)

Things to remember about toys . . . they're not for you.

Yeah, we used to have toys that you had to have imagination to play with or build into something. Now everything already has to do something right out of the box. Oh wait, no, that's what my Dad said 50 years ago.

(quoted from post at 02:36:22 12/02/15) Actually saw a Chia Pet commercial yesterday. They're featuring dinasaurs this year.

Saw one that was essentially a political commercial for the external_link Chia Pet. Showed all the "great" things he'd accomplished as President (only 4 were listed however!) I about puked. Would like to have a bunch of them to set up on my little range on the back of the property.
