John Deere 2010 won't start....any ideas?

Hi everyone, I have a restored John Deere 2010 that has worked great all summer, but the last few times I have used it it has run terrible and now it won't even start. I have good gas, new coil, new spark plugs and wires and above all I have spark. All it does is turn over and will occasionally except starter fluid and spit and sputter on that for a few seconds. Any advice on what my problem could be would be great. I'm at a loss, seems like everything I do changes nothing. Thanks for the help. :)
 
Fuel flow making it to the carb bowl? Main jet open?

Spark timing?

How's the compression?

Restricted air cleaner?

Restricted exhaust?
 
Trouble shoot then parts never the other way around.
First thing to do is make sure you have a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more from the center distributor cap wire. Then make sure you have the same spark at all 4 plug wires.
If you have that then pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in 3 minutes or less.
Also when was the last time you serviced the air cleaner?? If the oil bath part of it is full or water and mud they do not work well
 

I had a 2010 once and had similar symptoms. The switch was bad. I don't remember the method of checking the switch, sorry.

You have an intermittent spark. The reason I say this is because you stated that it will try to start occasionally. If you had good spark, it would not only try to star every time, but keep running as you feed it starting fluid. Color of the spark is meaningless. It is a more accurate test to check it by making jump a gap. Check the spark at the plug end. Gap the plug to 1/4" and see if the ignition not only jumps the gap, but it does it all the time. I'm guessing you have a bad condencer or a bad rotor/cap.?
