Won't accept US Postal Service?

The wife got a new lap top earlier this summer. The keyboard started acting up last night, she called customer support this morning, got a human after about half an hour. Wasn't much they could do over the phone, although they tried. It's under warranty,no problem there, but she'd have to send it in.
They told her she'd have to send it UPS or FedEx,said they wouldn't accept it if she sent it US Postal Service. Of course she asked why not. They said USPS was too rough on packages. You wouldn't think they could even do something like that, but apparently they can. Kinda like places that won't take cash, even though it says right on the bills "For all debts public and private".

When at the GM dealer our radio repair place out of Michigan would only send them out fed ex due to ups being too rough on things. They would use UPS for returns and even put a tag in the box to use. The returns were always not working anyhow so it didn't matter if they got more damage I guess ?

I have a tablet, originally bought for a cousin but I got stuck with it. Similar sort of thing, screen went out, they discouraged USPS, but did not forbid it.

I bought another cousin a Dell outlet laptop, around $170 for a decent 14" that looked new with same as new one year warranty. Came with an in home warranty as the base warranty. If it breaks, they come out and fix it, no shipping. Out of warranty, I fix it....

I bought a new laptop several weeks ago which was delivered by USPS damaged. Had been dropped on a corner. The box did not show any damage. I contacted the seller who, with hesitation, agreed to fix or replace. They sent me a Fedx box to return it. The seller shipped out a new one to replace the damaged one via Fedx.

RR: I guess a company can choose what venues it wants shipping wise. NOW AS FOR CASH THAT HAS BEEN BEAT TO DEATH. THE LEGAL SIDE OF IT SEEMS TO BE: IF I HAVE A DEBT TO YOU, FOR WHATEVER, YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT CASH. BUT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT IT UP FRONT, YOU CAN SPECIFY A VISA ETC BUT THERE IS NO DEBT THERE SO YOU CAN REFUSE THE SERVICE/SALE.

Agree whole heartedly, if I'm shipping anything of value it will go UPS or FedX. I never use the post office for packages because they're either damaged or lost.

Hmm? I'm taking part in a project that upgrades the USPS network, which includes the CISCo routers. CISCo uses the USPS to ship the very expensive, critical routers to the sites, and then I use USPS to ship the old routers back to CISCo. I haven't had a problem yet.

"They told her she'd have to send it UPS or FedEx,said they wouldn't accept it if she sent it US Postal Service". Hmm? Did they then send the FedEx or UPS pickup tags or email them to her so that she could print them...at their expense? Happens all the time, so if they did, good enough. Did they though? If not, they'd get the thing back AND accept it, guaranteed, because I doubt very seriously there was any such mention in her warranty or when she purchased it.

that all seems funny to me. I have shipped over 150 flat rate USPS boxes medium and large of wheels since summer without one being delivered late or damaged.

USPS hires UPS and FEDEX to deliver all parcel post items. I am a contractor for a delivery Co and I deliver packages from FEDEX (Smartpost) to the post office every day.

Always used USPS but not anymore. Sent a refurbished vintage kitchen stand mixer to the sister in law in Denver. Wrapped bowls and mixer in heavy towels and packed box full of newspaper. Put fragile stickers on the box. Went from E SD to Des Moines to Denver to Des Moines and back to Denver. Took 10 days and was delivered at 10:30 in the evening by ringing the doorbell and leaving. Bent beaters, busted base of mixer, handle broken off, bowls broken. Had it insured for about 1/2 of its worth, but won't use USPS again.

I can believe it. Several years ago, I had a package sent to me through the USPS and the contents were smashed. (It was the fault of the sender, but I didn't mention it to my postmaster)
I asked about the procedure for applying for the insurance that was taken out on the package and the postmaster just laughed at me and said: "Good luck with that!"
She told me it would take a month of chasing my tail and the hoops that I would have to go through wouldn't be worth it. I don't ship by USPS anymore.

Well most of the time I have no trouble with USPS. Two weeks ago I ordered some chemicals on Flebay and one of two boxes shows up. Looks like an elefant sat on it more than a few times. The other box never got here. Called up the company and they just sent another box of stuff to fill the order. That's how she goes.

I bought some front weight bracket clips from a gentleman that sent them out through the USPS. They got as far as Oshkosh WI....then disappeared. I think he said later the box showed up at his place without anything in it, nearly 2 months later. They did cover it on insurance.

I think they all have their moments.

A couple of years ago I bought a set of John Deere NU bottoms. Had them shipped UPS. The seller brought them to a store that did packaging to make sure they were packed properly.

A completely beat up box makes to to my house with 2 boards, 1 frog, one share and some misc bolts.

I guess they blew up the original box in transit then found what ever box they had laying around and threw what ever they found in it and sent it on it's way.

I talked to the guy at the store that packed it, he was amazed they were able to kill his packing. He said put a ton of time into securing everything.

The seller made it right with me and as far as I know UPS made it right with the seller. I felt bad for him, he wanted to do the right thing and it still didn't work out.

I ship laptops via USPS every week. No issues.
If they get broken they weren't packaged right.

In the case of HP, that's what they're afraid of, that it won't
be packaged well. Especially if you ship it in the box it came in.
Those boxes weren't meant for mailing/shipping.

Things can get broken no matter how you ship it.
But many people wrap fragile items in paper and expect that
to be a cushion. How is that supposed to work? It's paper!

Spend the money on decent packaging and save the money
on shipping. The sender is the only one who can file for the
insurance claim, so it behooves them to package well.

USPS is cheaper and faster than the others too.
One other thought, our local UPS store told me that if they
don't package it for you, your insurance is worthless.
They won't pay it.
I've never had to test that, so I'm only repeating what I was told.

Son ordered a coat from Cabelas When he received it, it was not what he ordered. He sent it back and did not insure it. 15 days later they had not received it. Called his uncle who delivers mail and wanted to know what to do. He said did you insure it and my son says no. His uncle told him that when they insure it they stamp in red letters on package INSURED. That way we know not to steal it.

Ordered chemical from Amazon, for delivery Oct 23, FedEx took it from TX to KC, then Seattle, then KC, then Portland OR, then KC, then Tulsa and I got it on Nov 13. UPS around here will drop off at the post office and have them deliver sometimes. Other times they drop it at the house, can't figure that one out.

Me too. I have never had a problem . They even supply the box . Try getting anything at UPS. Guys need bubble wrap or something [that are having problems].
