Sealing Head Studs

What do you guys use to seal studs or head bolts that go into the water jacket?

My dad always used Indian Head sealer.

I've used a variety of sealers over the years, but been using automotive grade silicone for head bolts. Put it on the threads and under the bolt head.

For high heat, like exhaust manifolds, I use the liquid Teflon pipe thread sealer.

The reason I am bringing this up is that I replaced the original head studs on my MH44 with ARP studs and they leaked. It seems that those studs have a huge issue with leaking. I do not remember the OEM studs ever having issues with leaking. They recommend cleaning all oil off of studs, then applying their sealer. The head must be installed and torqued down as soon as possible. This seems pretty hokie to me.

I use pipe thread sealing paste with teflon, and sometimes anaerobic gasket maker/flange sealant, which is basically thick Loctite.

I haven't had a leak that I am aware of with either.

Permatex high temp. thread sealant.
Comes in squeeze tube or can with brush.
It's white like pipe dope.
Highly Recommend.

Betting your problem isn't with sealer you used but
the ARP studs. There is a thread on Pulloff.com currently
about fastener suppliers. Seems ARP has a quality control
problem, you're not the only one having trouble. Good luck
getting your project back on track, look forward to reading
the updates.

Loctite 567:

I use this product on all VINTAGE equipment that has a STUD/BOLT entering and or coming in contact with the water/coolant passages.
I've been totally successful on all 2 cylinder JD Engines, FLATHEADS FORDS, and several gasoline engines used in FERGUSONS.
I used this product on all STUDS and fittings that entered the COOLANT passages on the 4000 HP NORDBERG and 9000 HP CLARK/DRESSER RAND V-16's.

I see on thecounterfeitreport.com that ARP has reported finding fake APR bolts and fasteners for some applications.

One was stripped, I have a spare set now, thinking of going back.

What do you seal them with?
