ford tractor rebuilding steering sector

A tractor buddy and I are contemplating rebuilding a late model 8n steering sector. This sector has a lot of play in it to the degree that it is dangerous. Is there one part that usually go bad such as the right shaft or left shaft. We tried to adjust it out but we think its too worn. When we tighten the adjusting screws up it has less play but then the steering wheel will only turn a little and it gets real hard to turn and it tighten up. I think I read way back that there is a nylon replacement bearing that should always be installed when you have it a part. Thankyou if youre able to share any information on rebuilding steering sectors. I looked back many months into archives but didnt find anything on rebuilding. Mark

If you post this down on the 9N,2N, 8N forum you will get fellows there that can tell you real fast what your getting into.

I have found that it is easier to search the archives through google than it is to use this site. If you search google for 8N rebuild of just about anything, many of the top hits are links to this site. Like others said go to the 8N board and they will walk you through it, I rebuilt mine a few years ago and it was a pretty simple.

Im having steering issues with my Ford 600. I've always seen lots of advice for the 8N and 9Ns but not so much for 600s. Anyone know how similar the two steering mechanisms are?
