Repowered 5020 deere

A good friend of mine picked up a 5020 with a cat 1160 v8 which is much like a 3208 non running from a salvage yard. This conversion was made by the m&w gear company. As near as I can tell this was the super power kit for a 5010/20 but I can't find hardly any information on them on line. Does any one have any information on these or know anything at all about them? My friend got it running and I had a chance to run it yesterday and it's quite impressive. A big improvement in performance from that 531 boat anchor in his other 5020.

No personal experience with owning or running one,but I remember when I was a kid, seeing posters at the Deere dealer showing them. They called them a "Cat Kit" if memory serves me right.

The later version of the 619 from a forage harvester etc with the improved oil pump drive . Seems to be the engine update of choice.

Yes if you want to lengthen the frame and
hood 8 inches. We looked into that for his
original 5020 after the second engine hear
ache.

m&w used to put on what they called m&w power show somewhere south of Bloomington Il.
they had a tent in which they had some of their products on display.
one being a 5020 /10.
lots of people were looking at it.
there was a guy near Amboy Il that was putting Gm v 8-71 in 5010 or 5020

JD made the 531 just with a turbo for their construction line. You think one of those would fit nicely into a 5020.

The 619 will fit right in where the 531 was...you can even use a 531 crankshaft in a 619....

20 years ago or so I saw a 5010-20 with a 8V-something Detroit. I had a hard time connecting the two stroke sound with that tractor. It was at a salvage yard and it was running on 7 so they probably picked it up cheap somewhere.
