has anyone else poured I-beams in there concrete shop floor? two beams 16' long and 8' apart, I have used these for a lot of different things, weld chains & steel to them to bend or straiten any steel. then when your done torch the metal off the beam and grind it smooth. I also have a ''A'' frame on wheels with a five ton electric chain fall on it. with something welded down and chain fall hooked to it you can straiten a lot of bent steel. one of the better things I've done to inprove my shop.

Well we only put one in the floor. We have 4 places where we can wrap a chain around the I-beam and we can cap them with a plastic pipe plug. We also have a pipe of about 4 inch diameter cemented in the floor that goes down about 2 feet. We can move the press over it in case we need to press a bearing or something else that is too long for the press as it sits.

I like the idea of placing "I" beams flush in the concrete. I have them buried with drop chains with covers. Over time the holes fill up with dirt and are a pain to clean out. One of the holes has a stuck chain in it that we can't get the dirt cleaned out of.

I would flush them, and put something in to displace the concrete so you take that out and have a channel to hook chains on.

I beams sound like a good idea. I buried 1 inch shafts, with a top loop, in three feet deep concrete at the front corners of my grease pit steps. Balance of the pit is concrete block. Haven"t used them much in 20 some years, but they are handy, and solid.

That's a feature that doesn't get too much use but when you need 'em there's no substitute - wish I had taken the time to put them in the floor when I built my shop!
