OT my week of travel

I drove down to the Oklahoma panhandle on Monday to work on a natural gas compressor station, on the way home I got a call about an issue and went up to South Dakota to work on another one. I saw a lot of grain laying on the ground all the way from end to end. The grain in Oklahoma/Kansas was brownish, so please comment if you know what it would be. It is really beautiful up in South Dakota, a lot of farms, wooded fence rows and marshes. I would love to go back there sometime and go pheasant hunting, but have been traveling enough the last few months that I just want to be home.
I drove about 2100 miles this week, that is about twice what my average is.

David the grain you saw was like Roger stated, Milo

Here is a picture of ripe milo.

May I ask the type of Prime Mover used in the Compressor station? Internal Combustion Engines or gas Turbines? What make of Compressors? Centrifugal or Reciprocating?
Thanks

There is a mixture:

OK - All recip, IR, Clark and Worthington
SD - New Solar 1500 turbine

Nice to talk to another compression guy.

I forgot to add, it seems that for compression, recip goes with recip and turbine goes with turbine, I have not seen any unmatched.

I do not know the model of the worthingtons, they are 1500 HP
The IR are KVS 2500 HP
I do not remember the model of the Clarks, but they are V engines 6500 - 8500 HP

The customer is putting in either Solar for turbines or Cats on new recips.

David ,

Locally we have Transco (now Williams),they have 3 nordburgs

with centrifugal compressors and 2 cooper-bessemers with crankcase

mounted compresors . nordburgs are V 16 about 3800 hp 500 at rpm ,the coopers

V 12 at 4000 hp at 250 rpm each ,running 600 psi , slightly derated due to

age of line . Lines were put in in the middle 1950's .

I due some machine work for them ,mostly metal spray and cast

welding that they don't do.
