Concrete floor hoist: Follow up

With a few emails and digging around, I found the hoist footing specs. I think all of the ideas you posted would be plenty strong enough anyways.

But here is the official word:

Minimum floor thickness - 4 1/4 inches
Minimum distance to concrete edge, crack, expansion joint, abandoned hole - 4 1/2 inches

If your floor does not meet the requirements, replace concrete floor under each column base with 4ft x 4ft x 6 inch thick 3000 PSI minimum concrete pad keyed under and flush with top of existing floor.

I am going to lay everything out perfectly to see where the columns do land. But with my rough measurements so far, its a little too close for my comfort to the saw cut reliefs.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Im still thinking that's an option. Ive got to see roughly where is gonna end up at first.

I would pour the floor pads like they say. There is too much to loose (your life) to try to figure a way around. My floor is 6" thick with fiber reinforced concrete. Also, please do not buy a China made lift like those at Greg Smith equipment and others, they are scary. I have a Challenger 10K and it has done well for 5 years and gets cycled several times a day. Watch the youtube videos of Greg Smith lift tests, they are scary.

how did you determine a 3x3x 1/2 plate is equal too or better than a 4x4x6" concrete slab? seems the 1/2 inch plate would tend to bend as its probably at its yield stress

The hoist was made in Toronto. I definitely will make sure its done right as Im the guy that will be underneath it.

I work at a scrap yard so size is no big deal. By the time you figure in the pedistal on the hoist, let's say 16"X16" 3' square is about right. but if you don't like that size buy a 4'X 8'X 3/4" sheet cut it in half and place it on that. I'd feel more comfortable with is sitting on steel plate than concrete.
