Sometimes it's the little things I don't understand

I didn't received my tax bill for the barn property where I keep my tractors. I was at the county offices for a unrelated problem a month ago. I was told if I haven't received my tax bill by the end of Oct. to come in and get a copy. The bill didn't come so I drove 60 mile round trip to the county offices to get acopy of the bill. Then they charged me a dollar to get the copy. It has nothing to do about the dollar. It's just: why do I have to pay for something which is not my fault. I just saved the county the cost of a stamp, and a return envelope. I guess I just don't see the big picture. A little more useless information. I pay 1,140.00 for that acre, with a 100 year house, and a couple old buildings here in Ca. I was able to keep Mom's tax rate, because it passed from mother to child. Had it not been that who knows how much the tax would have been, with California looking for more money.Stan

Tell the collector to come to your home and you will make them a "copy" of your check for a dollar.

Seems fair to me.

I was on the county website looking for the mailing address of an absentee landowner. They wanted a credit card number so they could charge me $2 just to look that up. A "convenience fee" they call it.

That term "convenience fee" makes my cheeks pucker. Here the electric co-op charges a $5.00 "convenience fee" if you phone in your payment using either credit card or checking account draw. If they were really concerned about their customers' convenience they would provide a payment return envelope with their bill.

That's America for you. My brother just went to get passport yesterday, he said it was $180 dollars, but if you want it faster it would cost more, then he calls the airline for a plane ticket to magladonia not sure of spelling, ticket was $450, but the US charges you a departure tax, then a return to the country tax, he said the tax was more than the plane ticket!
In NY you also have to pay a dollar to turn you plates in when you take a vehicle off the road. All these charges, were not really free, but enslaved but the lawmakers.

My boy was pulled over by the city police. He had a vet tag and when they called it in could not get any information on it. Police checked his registration and told him he needed to go to the courthouse and have the clerk file the paper work on his tag with the state. Told my son forget it, let them figure it out.

in Erie county NY the $1 fee for plate return is waived if you take it to downtown buffalo. Costs me more in gas than the trip is worth. Bill

My son said a friend of his got a "red light photo ticket" in the mail. He wrote out a check for $100, took a picture of it, and sent it in. Not to be out-done, they sent him a picture of handcuffs.
