300 utility starter

the starter on my 300 utility will not engage the flywheel at times.
I replaced the tractor gear in the starter 2 years ago because the
original gear was chewed up from past slippage. the teeth on the new
gear were shorter but worked for a short time. it's now to the point
where it slips more often then engage. the flywheel shows a little
damage but I think it can be cleaned up. It is not the original
starter, it appears to be an after market product. I'm thinking it
may not be a good fit and I'm considering replacing it with a rebuilt
starter for my local ih dealer. anyone else experience this problem
with this model and can offer advise?

Your starter doesent "slip" the gear mite not enguage and grind but you better get the correct starter before you damage the ring gear more as soon no starter will work.
