I have a slow leak in ATV tire.A friend mentioned using SLIME,never heard of it before. What are the pros and cons of it?Thank you GP

I've had some success with it. If you put it in a tubeless tire you will have a messy rim if you ever have to remove the tire.

when I worked at a jd dealership lawn tires come in flat witgh slime in them they charged 20.00 to power wash tire and rim then fix the tire and charge for that. some tire places will take it apart and see sline and give it back to you not fixed

I love the stuff. Its in all my ATV and lawnmower tires, most of my tractor fronts, skid loader tires, and wagon tires. Its cheap and effective, cleans up with water if you have to break the tire down at some point, but it smells something terrible when you do.

I use it in my lawn mower tires and the front tires on a couple of my tractors. It will work for a while but when you eventually have to fix the tire be prepared to get slimed.

You really don't have much choice to use some type tire sealer in ATV tires, especially if you go anywhere near thorns. It's nasty stuff, shortens the tire life, but it's use it, or constantly have to be fixing flats.

I couldn't find a rear mower tire. Put tire in water and found where it was leaking. Then put slime in tire. Positioned tire so slime would be near leak. After I saw a little green coming out the tire where it was leaking, slime did it's job. Tire stopped leaking. Just putting slime in tire may not stop leaks in side walls, like I had.

I've had some success with it in front tractor tires with tubes in them. Wouldn't use it in tubeless tires. Never used it in high speed tires.

KEH

Slime makes more than one product. They make one for tubeless tires and another for tubed tires. they also make one for trucks and cars. I have used several times with good results and when I had to replace tire rim washed down clean with garden hose.If you look up slime you will see they have a big list of products.

Bought a little garden cart tube once and had slime in it from factory, it got a hole in the tube, the slime didn't stop it from leaking, but was easy to spot the hole! LOL

The place that I worked at, put something like it in all the tires [ 42 wheeler ] of the truck I drove, hauling scrap, and it sure worked good. Cut down on the flats big time.

Most worthless junk on the market. I owned a tire shop for 22years. The only thing it does well is hide holes in tires and tubes. We actually repaired hundreds of tires over the years with that crap in them. Takes way too much time to clean the crap out, remount the tire, find the hole or holes and fix them. People belly ache if you try to charge them for the extra amount of time you are forced to spend repairing their self made mess.

used nearly a gallon of it a few weeks back on tubeless 28 in. rear tire. I had a annoying slow leak but didn't use the tractor much. Fixed it perfectly. Greatly relieved to find it up every time I need it. Used the big tire type Slime.

That's one think most guys don't know is that slime has about 10 different types of Slime. You have to buy the one you need for your application .

Tire shop put slime in tires on garden tractor( new tractor) 20 years ago after get flats because of thorns in tires. Still running it and have never had another flat. I used it in a farm tractor tire for 5 years until side wall went out. Once I got tire off it took me 15 minutes with brush and garden hose to wash it off rim and it did no damage to rim.

Yep I use it, on garden tractors and on farm tractors. What I've finally figured is to find and patch the bigger holes with plug=type self-patcher kit from Wally World, that dark-orange/brown sticky plug thing, and dump in enough Slime to take care of the smaller holes. So far works great for me. Make sure you dump in ENOUGH Slime, don't just dump in a squirt.

Down here in the mesquite thorn country... use it in all farm tires, tactors, atv, hay, etc...

Must use enough for the tire size, to work. some problems are...

if you park and the hole is on the top, the slime can't get to it and it will leak down so ALWAYS bring all equipment back to in reach of air hose. Even for lunch.

If you put enough in the tire and use it often, it will not go down.

Finally on thin lawn mower tires, they will eventually have so many holes in them, the will weaken and split, so slime is only good for about 10 years or so on those tires before you have to buy new ones and re-slime em. on the avt's we put a pint to quart in each tire, and about every 6 months you might have to add a bit of air due to new holes not quite sealed yet.

It does not work well on rotting or cracked tires.

very good stuff if you use the right one and pick your battles....it won't work miracles.
Tubeless ATV tires? It can't be beat.
Use a lot, and put it in all 4 whether they leak or not.
Your days of being flat-tire stranded way back in the woods, or far up a mountain where only an ATV will go....are over.

when a tire fails completely and I have to clean a green rim...big deal...far easier than most of the tractor rims I work on.......
