Mahindra 7010 discharging

My Mahindra 7010 starts discharging (light comes on) after running for a few minutes. Could this be a bad alternator or some other problem? Battery seems to be fully charged.

It's time to quit looking at the pretty lights and do some troubleshooting. Get a voltmeter. If the alternator is charging (engine running, perhaps half throttle) the voltage at the battery should be about 14.2 volts. If it isn't, your alternator is not charging.

Are there any other problems with the instruments? Like temp or fuel gauges doing strange things? That could be an indication of an instrument panel power loss, which would cause the alternator lamp to give a false reading.

You'll need a volt meter and catch it in the act. Voltage should be around 14 to 15 volts, engine revved up.

Intermittent charging can also be caused by sticking brushes, especially if the alternator is oily or caked with dirt or grass. Most can be disassembled and cleaned.

It can also be caused by bad electrical connections, loose worn wet or oily belt, overheating (dirty or trying to maintain a bad battery).

And it can simply be a failing alternator. You can probably get a rebuilt one at the auto supply, just match it up, check the amp rating, and the pulley size/alignment.

My neighbor had this problem and the place she had it checked and they told her the alternator and battery was ok. They told her to take it to a Ford dealer. I had her to start the engine and using my multimeter it only showed 12 volts. I told her she needed an alternator. That fixed the problem. Hal
