Residing my pole barn

I'm residing and reroofing my pole barn with new steel. Is the any advantage to adding plywood sheeting to the walls before siding, or should I just go back over the purlins with steel? I will be using just steel on the roof because the person who built it used reclaimed 2x4's for rafters and I don't want to add any more weight up there. Even though it's a 12/12 pitch. Thanks mike

If there will be any livestock kept inside or with access to the outside of the barn I would sheet it at least halfway up before attaching the metal siding but if just equipment or hay shed I would jput on the tin. If I was going to the expense and trouble of re-roofing I would replace the old 2x4 rafters with either preferably steel purlins or at least 2x6 wood rafters.

if you live where it s cold you may want to put an underlayment under your roof steel so you don t get condensation and dripping inside your barn in the spring and fall.

That's what we did with mine. New construction. 48' span, 2' between rafters 5/8 osb. No condensation problems. Actually, the osb is pretty light, would add strength to structure.

I have always wished we would of sheeted our garage at the cabin with Builtrite before putting on the steel, it would of made it a lot warmer in cold weather. We did cover the roof purloins with a heavy paper mill felt before sheeting it with steel, and we have no condensation dripping. I have since sheeted the inside of the walls with OSB and that seems to help. A pole shed with just steel will always be the same temperature inside as outside, and a lot of people leave the doors open to reduce condensation.
