The wife and are traveling across central Wisconsin were from pa! Back home they always said we farmed in the hell hole of america thats why no many are left! Looks like alot small farms here in Wisconsin had trouble surviving kinda wish I was around in the time all these small farms were doing well! Seems to me no matter where you go the little guy has trouble surviving! Yes thier are some pockets were the small farm seems to get by ok like lancaster pa! O well better get on our way!

The drive to larger farms has been going on for close to two hundred years. Ever since the homesteaders got 160 acres to start with. The good farmers grew and the poor sold out.

Not only lost the small farm's but small towns to. I can remember say 160 acre farm with 2 tractors versus 400 with 2 .my town had 3 implement dealers now 1. 2 cheese factories and a butter factory now none. 3 feed mills now none we even had a couple shoe stores . It's amazing how much it has changed. I can't help but wonder big government farm's didn't work in Russia well they work here?

These days large farmers have a huge competitive advantage due to artificially low interest rates courtesy of the central banks. Having a large equity base swelled by inflation makes expansion easy for large operators and impossible for smaller competitors. We desperately need interest rates to rise in order to level the playing field.

In my case I'm small and if I go to a bank farm income doesn't count only off farm income however farm expense does. Got a farm almost payed for yet that will not show on any credit report. It's basically rigged to help the ones that the bank choose. Unfortunately it seems most farmers are little more than a hired man for the bank.
