This is starting to be an unwanted ritual around here. :>(

Allan, did you come to the conclusion that the hydro is toast? I'm working on putting an input shaft in a 656 hydro right now, not the worst job in the world, but definitely not the easiest either...I can't imagine the extra work/nightmare yours would be with that cab. Maybe not too bad though, probably like a regular gear drive 86 series and just roll the rear end from under the cab? Good luck

The thing is, I can still get the red ones repaired costing just slightly under the original purchase price. :>)

I'm sending it to the IH dealer. They still do it the old way; repair 'em. At worst, they can turn the plates if need be with just a single split.

Same tractor; axle bearing is now just fine. Damned hydro is slipping tho. Might as well get it all ready to go for next year.

Buy a new one or nearly new, make payments. Buy used, pay repair bills. BTDT.
Good luck with it.

The large frame tractors hydrostatic drive is easier to repair than the small ones. You can get the whole hydrostatic drive out the front with one split. If output shaft needs to come out, then a double split.

Like the new ones don't break down???? Then you have payments AND repair bills. And it doesn't seem to matter old or new or nearly new, they going to break at the least convenient tome. gobble

Your pic reminds of a few years ago when you posted a pic of one of your tractors on a trailer with no chains and binders in sight. A lot of people assumed it went down the road that way and gave you a lot of crap about unsafe hauling.

Yes, that is what I was told.

He told me basically the same as what you had said. Two problems going on here at the same time. The silly thing wouldn't even pull iself up on the trailer; that really surprised me because it normally would pull the house down when cold.

Also, when I had the pan off, I fully expected to see a pile of brass lying in her belly and signs of scorching. Clean as a whistle in there and the oil was like new.

He told me that I didn't know what I was looking at and that the 'no reverse' issue was right there in the cam plates; however, the 'no pull' will take 3 hours of testing with the flow rater.

It's gonna be interesting,

Allan
