Just wondering what you guys use for an internet service. I am with Centurylink and other than crap for service, spending hours on the phone with them trying to solve problems, no one there who has a clue how to fix a problem, they outright lie to you, overcharging and saying that they are working on a problem which has been a problem for many months, they are a great co. What do you guys recommend? Is anybody with Hughs? Thanks

I've always been with a local service here. I had it over the air for a while, but there's a fiber optic running right past my house and they finally got me hooked up to that. DSL for $31.90 a month.

I'm on local phone company DSL here. The speed is okay, service is so-so. The price is cheap compared to Road Runner. Dish offers satellite internet here. But I understand that it is the old Hughs Net and there are problems with that, too. Six of one and half a dozen of the other, I guess. I feel your pain.

I agree completely with you about CenturyLink. It sucks but it is the only phone service I can get out here in the sticks. I keep looking for compitation.

I have Hughes Net 4 and most of the time it's OK. Thick clouds are not good. $100 a month, more than I want to pay. I'm waiting for cable internet, but you have to take a dirt road to get to my dirt road.

We have been with Century Link a long time, and the level and quality of service vary according to where they are in their construction schedule. They have to upgrade equipment every couple years to keep up with increased traffic - but the people
who answer the phones don't always have truthful information to give you. Right now I have good service but it's 9 in the morning. Apparently no one is downloading movies right now. Evenings can be pretty slow. They are much more reliable here than cell or satellite service.

I had Hughes for four years and the only problem was heavy snow. Them learned to spray dish with Pam and nno more problrmsw.

I am on Verizon wireless. I sure do like it. It is fast and don t go off very much. I am not going to change
to any thing else. They love there $$ too. May be your location, I am in E. Tx.

I'm on Verizon, also, and it's been basically flawless. Like Hammers said, though, they're quick to add overage charges. They don't slow down or interrupt service if you exceed your plan, they just tack $15 onto your monthly bill for every gig of use over your plan. Depending on how much you use, it can be cost effective to increase your plan.

I've also found it helps to shop different Verizon stores. The local people make a big difference. I have one small town store I like because the people are helpful, personable, and don't try to sell you anything you don't need. Verizon stores in larger cities seem to be nothing more than assembly lines to sell you twice (or more) what you want or need. The three Verizon stores in Lincoln, NE make high pressure car dealers look like amateurs.

And, speaking of Lincoln, the Better Business Bureau office in Lincoln says they have so many complaints about Verizon they can't handle them there, they ship them off to a big BBB facility in New Jersey.

But, right now Verizon is my best option so I've learned to play their games.

How Internet performs varies from area to area, including satellite and cellular, so you have to ask in your local area. Do you watch any streaming video, like Youtube, Netflix etc.? HD movie can be 4 to 5 GB, standard definition is less. Computer updates, Windows 10 download was about 4GB, update this week was something like 3GB I think (didn't verify, don't use Windows, saw it mentioned elsewhere). Most of the satellite plans start with a 10GB plan for the month, daytime use. Do you use any VOIP product for phone calls? There's a delay with satellite, some things don't work great.

Viasat Exede is the better satellite company/product in general. A WISP could be a good choice if available.

Here's a Verizon option if you are in a 4G area. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/lte-internet-installed/

Town has DSL here but it only works up to 8 miles from town so I can't get it, $50 is the cheapest, plus $35 for the mandatory landline, so anyone that wants internet from town and is in range pays a minimum of $85 for up to 5 meg service (it was 1 meg at the beginning of the year).

I use a regional cell provider, most neighbors have Exede, too far out for cell. Some satellite areas are full, not available for signup.

I don't know if you live in their service area, but these guys are great to deal with. Good customer service,You get to speak to an American when you need support, no contract, no BS. Look at home services at the bottom of the page.
