Just saw one all black - end to end.
Try to predict the winter with that one!

That said, have seen several with various widths of brown stripes this fall. Shortvif meaduring anf taking an average?

Definitely means a hard winter with below average temperatures and above average snowfall. Stock up on firewood and your favorite brand of whiskey!
 
Given that you have seen them with no brown band, narrow and wide bands, I would say that woolly bears are just becoming more politically correct and socially acceptable. Or maybe they are just becoming like the human forecasters? Doesn't pay to commit yourself in any one direction.
 
Must of blown in from the north, just on the nightly news warmer than normal winter for n Illinois across the lake and bottom of Mich.
 
According to the strength of the 'El Nino' currents, Michigan will have 'milder then normal' temps. And that means more moisture !! (white kind). just quoting.
