We are having a terrible year with fleas in Northern CA.

The fleas we have a darker, almost black, than the ones we usually have, reddish in color.

We have tried Frontline, Capstar, sevin dust, other flea dusts, diatomaceous earth, and spraying the stalls and kennels with various insecticides but have not been able to break the cycle.

Any idea would be appreciated.

boric acid... any drug store.. I had a sever case many moons ago and this stuff is safe for animals, children, etc.. for me i spread it around my basement floor with a push broom, and in the carpet areas i sprinkled it and used broom to work it in..Havent had problems in years but I still treat couple times year..

I agree....boric acid- a.k.a. Borax laundry powder. Works great! Spread it just like dusting your tomato plants.

I went to the vet and got a liquid that you put on the back of the cat's neck where it can't get to. Better than anything you get at store. Last about 3-4 weeks. We fogged the house a few times too. No more Fleas. Not cheap, but worth it. I bought 6 treatments and they gave me two free ones.

I had a bad case a few years ago in one of my rental houses. It took the better part of 6 weeks to get ride of them. I used Seven and those bomb things. I did the bomb things about every 5 days. One in every room of the house. Covered the whole house floors with Seven powder. I even Dusted Seven outside around house foundation. Before I entered. I would dump Seven down my pant legs and on my shoes. Good luck.

Had that problem last year, Frontline wasn't working. Vet added Comfortis a one time pill that works immediately. Then this year we changed to Bravecto that's seems to be working well, and it's a chewable so you don't have to apply to the neck.

"I would dump Seven down my pant legs and on my shoes."
Were you fghting with fleas or crab lice jl? LOL,the devil made me do it.

Crab lice you get rid of by shaving one half and setting the other half on fire. You stab them as they come running out. This works for head lice too but you need a friend to do the stabbing.

I used Borax with great results when I lived in San Diego. Sprinkle it around with a flour sifter after vacuuming, and repeat at least once a week. It will work outside until it gets damp. This is what the "non toxic" exterminators use.
SoCal was famous for its fleas 150 years ago. At Camp Pendelton there is "Las Pulgas Rd." Pulgas means fleas.

I live in Northern Cal now, at 3800 feet. No fleas here.
