windows 10 compatable with Microsoft Office 97?

Would like to get a new computer, but dont want to purchase office 2016 which you have to pay for yearly. I know Microsoft will say its not compatable, so you can buy new, but anyboby know for sure?

Read this, sounds like it probably might work tho not supported. You could a free version of Open Office. or Libre office which is what I will probably do. I am used to Libre Office so will try that.

You can still buy office 2010.

I have office XP Pro and it will not work on Windows 8.1 or 10. When I try to load it the Microsoft's site tells me that my copy is not compatible.
