Changing 20 tires on a manure spreader.

I picked up a small Meyers manure spreader and it needs different tires put on. One tire is a 10:00 X 20 (rotten big truck) and the other is a lot smaller, can't read the tire size, but I'm guessing 8:25 x 20" also rotten. How hard are these to dismount and mount. I am looking for two tires in Central Wi.

In my experience those are a size that is pretty easy to change by hand with pry bars, but if they have a lot of plies they may be really stiff. I would try with the old tires and see if you can get them off.

Good luck. :)

Keep the kids away, as the tire irons and bad words tend to fly on those types of projects.

We found a loader with hyd down pressure helps break the bead loose sometimes.

How old are you? Over 50? I'd take them somewhere. I've pulled the tube out of a 11x22 on the spreader by leaving the wheel on the spreader after the bead broke down from pulling it up to the shop, but to take one off, hammer it down, pry it off the rim and replace it,at the age of 60,I rather eat bees.

I would take the wheels somewhere, get the tires removed, bring them back home and clean the rust off, repaint, and I would then take them back to have replacement tires mounted, but you may want to mount them yourself.

50 year old tires are where I draw the line. I have an old ground driven spreader that needs different rubber but I would rather burn the rubber off and run it on steel than work on them. I'll pay someone a hefty penny to do it for me.

KCtractors You will have trouble getting them off the rims if they are old and hard, rusted to the rim.Don't let some ham fisted kid ruin your rims with a big tire hammer and bend it all up,then have to find replacement rims.It might be the easiest to cut the bead with a saws-all to get the tire off without damaging the rim.If you need some tires for it at a good price check Tucker tire.

If they are stiff and nasty, cut them off at the bead, then use a cutoff wheel on a die grinder to slice the bead if they still persist in resisting the pry bar. Jim

The 10 x 20 was easy to find years ago but now 11 x 22.5 are used most. If you do find tires, just get a couple of tire irons and some soap and a big hammer. Run over the tire as close to the rim as possible with you tractor to break it loose if it is stubborn. If it is a slpit rim, be VERY carefull putting air back in it. Chain it so it will not blow up in your face.

While dismounting and mounting them, use a half a cup of dish soap, and the rest water in a spray bottle. Keep the beads well lubed up. That will help a lot.

I got 4 nice used 10.00X20 from the local county school bus garage...they were happy to give them to me rather than pay for their disposal. The price was definitely right...free.

Tires at bus place is a good thing. Take it to a tire place! what is $40.oo to killing yourself!
