Where did the summer go??? The beans are ready to combine and I shelled a ear of corn last night and it's 20%. I still have a tractor to haul home from Geneseo, take the 1850 and drive to Muscatine to pull home the 8 row planter that I bought at my brothers sale. I need to mow and disk up a small patch for seed rye to be planted in. It's hard to get much done when I work about 2 hours OT every day and then 4 to 5 hours on Saturday. I still have to clean out the sieves and put the chopper back on the 6600. I should burn some vacation and get going on crops, but they just started a new line at work, I took off 2 days last week and one day this week and came back to a mell of a hess. Ah, the joys of being a part time farmer!! Chris

I don't know how you stand it. I tried that for a few years. It about drove me nuts. The weather right here in the Fingerlakes of NY is generally your enemy, not your friend. Now I have full time to give to crop farming, much bigger equipment than I really need, and I can get things done on time. Of course, now I move at partial speed, and that's not going to get any better!

I'm part time farming with a full time job same as you but farming on a smaller scale and I know exactly what you're talking about. It worked pretty good as long as my sons were at home but they are both out of the house and out of the area now and this year between lack of help, busiest I've ever been on a job, crappy weather, death in the family and a wedding my haying season was totally a lost cause. Add that on to being 61 years old this year and I decided it was time to cut back a bit and fit a fishing schedule into the mix for next year. I'm going to have my haying down to one real busy weekend next year and then I can spend the rest of the time playing with my old tractors.

I can also relate- max hours at work and the weather enemy early in the haying season here in SW MI. Kinda caught up now, but starting to clean stuff up to put away. Can't imagine how busy I would be if I didn't have the neighbor do all my combining.

Chris How did the sale go??? I did not know it was already. I was kind of wanting to go to it.

As for the crop and time flying. I totally agree. I have abuilding to get insulated and siding on it before the snow flies. So we had better be snow free until JAn. LOL
