I want to hook up a loader with single acting cylinders for the boom and a double acting cylinder on the bucket what is the cheapest way 2 single valves or will a joystick work most loaders have double acting cylinders for both bucket and boom

You need to think this out a little better. First of all how large is your hydraulic reservoir? The plug Lund suggested may not work as when you let the loader as the valve spool will want to direct the flow to the closed port and then it will need to go over the relief valve. Also need to know the bore and stroke of the 2 single acting cylinders.

A float position for the boom cylinders is very handy on concrete or frozen ground. If your tractor needs to use the rod end of the boom cylinders for an extra hydraulic reservoir, it may not take much more than the right valve to make the boom cylinders double acting.

I never saw a two spool valve that did that. I've used them on open and closed center running one way on the lift and two way on the bucket. Any one I've seen just dumps the return oil back through the outlet and back to the reservoir.

Here's a picture of the one on the 1020 Deere. Nothing special about the valve. I had that same loader on a Ferguson 30,just had the other plug in for open center hydraulics.

Some folks just want everything to be complicated. RR . Have seen many ran just as you say. Take the common old cross valve and plum as you say and it will let down direct to the tank.
