Change generator to an alternator how

Yes, of course. Recommend a 3-wire Delco. Might find a kit on this site. More knowledgeable folks will show up.

When I bought a John Deere LA the generator and wiring were gone. A 6V generator was available at a salvage yard for $200. I found a Delco
alternator from a Chevy truck. Took it to the local automotive electrical shop and had it converted to 6V + ground. Installed a 2" pulley and
mounted it with the appropriate belt, The alternator was also converted to one wire which I ran to the ammeter then directly to the battery. Since
the tractor uses magneto ignition there is no key switch. The alternator with the small pulley charges at a fast idle. The bill from the shop was
$75. The system performs flawlessly. HTH. Sam

Yes you need an alternator from say a 1980 Chev pickup no power any thing no AC. Then you need to wire it up the correct way place maybe make the brackets to mount it. etc. Not all that hard to do and I have done a good many of them over the years
